Peter Coyle is one of Liverpool, England's finest songwriters and most unpredictable independent artists, renowned for his work in such bands as the Jass Babies and the Lotus Eaters as well as his own hard-to-find solo oeuvre. His influence can be heard in such critically acclaimed artists like Travis and Badly Drawn Boy. The Reach for the Sun CD EP offers the heartfelt and deeply poetic work that has kept Coyle's loyal fans spellbound.

Coyle's Reach for the Sun aptly reflects his undying passion for human existence and love for gorgeously crafted music that cannot be placed in any era. Coyle's melancholic croon captures the ghostly sorrow of Nat King Cole, the wounded romanticism of Nick Drake, and the emotional intensity of Peter Gabriel. Combining elements of folk, soul, and indie rock, Reach for the Sun is not bound by genre restrictions; the songs aren't linked by repetition of style but through introspective, uplifting lyrics that can caress a broken soul.

Know-It-All Records in Tacoma, Washington is proud to expose the shimmering beauty of Coyle's music for the first time to a global audience. Just when you think you've heard the last from this legend from The Lotus Eaters, Peter Coyle comes back with a vengeance. Reach for the sun captivates your mind like no other and reminds you of what good music used to be like and how it should still be. Hits like Reach For the Sun and Phoenix captivates the soul and gives us a fresh perspective of how good song writing really is. Definitely worth every peso i spent (and i had it shipped to the Philippines!)

The CD is tight, I would recommend it to anyone that has an ear for good music. Even the album artwork is appealing.

I heard everyone else raving about it so I figured what the heck, buy it and listen for myself. It's a great tune, glad I have it in my collection...

I've always loved Peter Coyle's music, and I'm happy that it is finally available to the world. I love listening to "Reach for the Sun" when I'm studying; it makes me feel good. "Phoenix" reminds me of summertime in Japan. Peter Coyle is here to save us from the bad music that is on the charts.

"Reach for the Sun" is the album that Coldplay fans have been waiting for. I've played my two Coldplay albums over and over again, and I was wondering what I could listen to before the next record by Chris Martin and his companions. Peter Coyle's "Reach for the Sun" captures the summertime glow of Coldplay's shimmering ballads. Lovely lyrics and gorgeously, hopelessly romantic vocals. I highly recommend this to fans of '80s New Wave and the modern Britpop like Coldplay and Travis. You may not know Peter Coyle, but he was there first. Brilliant!

Hi Mike, I did receive the CD and was well rewarded for the wait. As you said “Running Down the River” from Peter's still unreleased Stay Deep album is a standout. “Butterfly” has been a favorite of mine for a long time, and he performs it beautifully here. I am hopeful your marketing efforts will prove fruitful for the label and Peter's attempt at U.S. recognition. If he only could get a spot on Saturday Night Live I'm sure that would propel him into the charts! (we can dream eh?)

I was totally blown away when I saw the CD; it was really a work of art. And the more I remember the effort, sacrifice and love that were put into it, the more I appreciated it. Actually, I bought two. The quality of the recording and editing was flawless...fantastic. Peter's voice was just amazing; you need a very discriminating ear to know that this not Lotus Eaters playing, unlike Morrissey where u recognize right away that it's not Johnny Marr playing guitar, because the melody was very much like the TLE's signature... The song selection was very much varied, so you don't get tired of listening to the EP. Unlike other bands that do not dare to experiment, Peter has no qualms putting the shimmering strings of “Reach for the Sun” with the bluesy, folksy “Running Down the River.” And guess what, his voice was so clear that even my two year-old daughter could pick-up the word “Butterfly.” Not only the melody hits you, but the content and message of the songs as well. They give a spark of hope in our lives. Hear “Phoenix” and the title track, “Reach for the Sun,” and you'll feel inspired. Looking back now, I realized that God really permitted all these things to happen to tell us something, that in the end everything is for the good. The wait was really nothing compared to what we got in the end. From Danny Castano: I was totally blown away when I saw the CD; it was really a work of art. The beautiful songs on Peter Coyle's EP Reach for the Sun are the type that will give you comfort and hope in your darkest hour. The gentle stripped down melodies flow like summer wind and will delight fans of classic No Sense of Sin-era Lotus Eaters. Still Coyle has grown as an artist. While his earlier work was full of youthful innocence confronting broken-hearted pain, his latest vocals contain the wisdom of one who has passed through the hurt to show us the light on the other side. Coyle's simple, romantic, and spiritual singing will appeal to those who love Coldplay, Live and Travis. His polished, gentle voice surpasses even the frontmen of those great bands. If you've taped the songs of the radio - trust me you will want to hear the full sound quality. There are fine touches like the angelic background vocals on “Phoenix” and the flute in the live “Reach for the Sun” that you don't want to miss out on. Even if you plan to buy the full-length CD when it arrives, the three otherwise unavailable B-sides make this a must have. These are no faint demos, or throwaway remixes but well-recorded, catchy, magical songs that fit right along with the single. The outstanding “Running Down the River” features a touch of bayou blues incorporated seamlessly into Coyle's style. Butterfly features a magic concert singalong that puts you on the scene. There are constant metaphors to nature in these songs that binds them together thematically. There is an invitation to take fight even as the guitar and keyboards create the sensation of moving through air. If you get the chance, listen to them in a wooded area or by a body of water at sunrise. A transcendent experience waits.

Finally, the much-awaited Peter Coyle "Reach for the Sun" EP has arrived!! Was it worth the wait? The answer: A RESOUNDING "HELL YEAH!!" Peter Coyle has done it again. The man has a penchant for writing disturbingly catchy songs without making them sound ordinary. The songs Reach for the Sun and Phoenix are the most obvious stand-outs. Both songs abundant with lush acoustic guitars, haunting voice, inspiring lyricism and impeccable song-writing from the man behind the Lotus Eaters' music. "Reach for the Sun" even has the right touch of electronica employed within its mesmerizing wall of aural bliss. That could only come from the genius of Mr. Coyle. What are the songs all about anyway? Collectively, they are all songs which pertain to hope and the impending triumph of the human spirit. It is truly inspirational in nature. Listen to the lyrics and put a little hope in your life. The 3 Live tracks (including Reach for the Sun) are not fillers mind you. "Butterfly" and the blues - influenced "Running Down the River" are growing on these ears as we speak. Running Down the River - a bluesy ballad of sorts - is reminiscent of Coyle's collaboration with Ian Broudie's Lightning Seeds in one of the Seeds' song "Control the Flame" off their debut album "Cloudcuckooland". The blues-tinged single gets down and dirgy in a beautiful way. Some of the people who have yet to listen to the EP always ask me: Is it still New Wave? In my own opinion, yes and no. Yes, in the sense that some of the beats and melodies employ new wave sensibilities, even Coyle's vocals still bear that Lotus Eaters timbre. But to actually pigeon-hole or categorize his music is quite difficult. Elements of new wave, brit pop, blues and electronica are beautifully blended here to create a most original and daring sound that can only be Peter Coyle's music. Feeling hopeless and dreary? Pop in this CD and find the light at the end of every tunnel. eric

  • Coyle continues his ethereal work started with the Lotus Eaters.

Purge your soul of the inanities of bad music, soothe your faccid eardrums with Coyle's anodyne--Reach for the Sun. 5 tracks of excellent eclectism. He showcases a rare gift of using a diverse range of musical genres without trying too hard--there's the bluesy 'Running Down the River', the mystical pop of 'Phoenix', and the acoustic guitar/pseudo-electronica flavored title track [check out that synth intro!] that would make David Gray seem like a poor cousin. Don't be a loser and miss out on this gem of an EP!
