PETE BITE
“The Downfall of Stiffneck and
The Silver Circus Band”
Loose Records LSECD70 Release Date October 2007
It was 30 years ago…when Loose Records first met Pete Bite.
Back then he was the new boy in town (London, that is) from his home in Northern Ireland via a spell in Scotland. It was while on tour in Scotland that he devised ‘The Downfall of Stiffneck’ as all the songs were based on his real-life experiences with the band he was on the road with.
He was only in London two days when Mickie Most signed him and recognised the raw talent of his song writing. Franklin’s Jailstone was Mickie’s choice for his first single. Following his time with RAK he was signed to various other companies all ready to exploit that recognised talent.
Now the circle has come full spin and the recording which Loose originally financed in Acorn Studios, Oxford, 30 years ago has come back home for a full CD release on…Loose Records. Interestingly the engineer on those sessions was Colin Sanders who gave the world Solid State Logic. Unknown to us at the time, he was using Pete’s sessions to progress his research. So this recording has a slice of audio history as well.
Loose Records are proud of their long association with Pete Bite and are proud to announce that his re-mastered album is now available on CD for the first time. If you missed it first time then please take the time to enjoy it NOW.
This album inspired a stage play called ‘Snakes and Causeways’ which starred Patrick Bergin (Sleeping with the Enemy with Julia Roberts) and Cathy Shipton (Nurse Duffy in Casualty). Pete co-wrote the play with actor Tim Barker back in 1983 and now adds ruefully “ We auditioned Liam Neeson for a part but, at the time, I felt he wasn’t right…perhaps now we might re-consider if he wants to get in touch!”
