notes
Long before setting off on her solo career, Perla Batalla's astonishing voice had been in great demand for a host of singers from kd lang, Jennifer Warnes, Iggy Pop, The Gipsy Kings and Was (Not Was).
They, in turn, had discovered this native Californian Hispanic songbird from her years with Leonard Cohen, with whom she toured and recorded from 1988-1994.
The experience with the renowned poet was a life-changing one for Batalla, in which she took both cues and encouragement from the singers vast talent and genuine humanity.
Perla's road to becoming an artist in her own right has been highlighted by delving into her cultural roots, where rich soil awaited.
The homage to her Latin background has opened up an entire world of music and has been the inspiration for her newest and finest work, "Heaven and Earth".

You and your friends need to hear this!
author: Christine GThis is one of my favorite CDs and one of the few that I will give as a present to friends because it is one that people actually notice and listen to when I play it.
fantastic, you have to hear her
author: Bob BraudeIf you haven't heard Perla get this CD. This was her first and just signaled what a talent she is. Her haunting voice gets under your skin whatever language she sings in. This is one CD you'll play over and over, best late at night with a good cognac.

Beautiful work.
author: Pepe Raphael, Pepe & The Bottle BlondesThere is honest beauty in Perla's performance in this album. The kind of album that you find yourself rediscovering everytime you listen to it, a beautiful and original selection of songs delivered with the intesity and the emotion of a Mercedes Sosa and the vocal confidence of Maria Dolores Pradera, two of my absolute favorite female voices of all times. I am glad to have found Perla's music and very happy to have her music/voice be part of the library of singers that I have always loved listening to. Thank you Perla. I wish you the very best. Pepe
This is amazing music.
author: AprilsauceAs I listen, I can feel Perla Batalla's music filling me up, seeping into my empty places and making me feel whole and powerful. I want to learn Spanish immediately, not because I don’t understand all of Perla’s words – anyone who listens will understand – but because I’d like to be able to say thank you for this music, and there are not enough words in any one language to do so. Muchas Gracias, Perla.
