notes
Hailed as one of the best Filipino guitarists, Perfecto De Castro now takes his career to the World Stage, enrapturing audiences with his adventurous programming of multi-cultural music.
“One of the best guitarists we have today” - Josefino Chino Toledo, Filipino Composer-Conductor
A graduate of the PWU School of Music, Perfecto studied with one of the Philippines’ best guitar pedagogues, Maestro Jose Valdez, and has since augmented his guitar studies through lessons and masterclasses taught by some of the world’s best guitarists and teachers: Angelito Agcaoili, Michael Dadap, Paul Galbraith, Tilman Hoppstock, Scott Kritzer, Jonathan Leathwood, Janet Marlow, Jorge Orozco and James Smith.
Perfecto's latest solo 10 String Guitar CD, “A Journey through Ten Strings", has been well-received by listeners and critics alike, with positive reviews from Minor7th.com, Guitarramagazine.com and UK"s Classical Guitar Magazine.
“De Castro plays with elegance, sensitivity, tonal clarity and finesse” - Julia Crowe, Classical Guitar Magazine
"Perhaps it is not the unique guitar that makes these songs so powerful, but the way that the artist performs them. Perfecto takes a distinctly Filipino approach to many of these compositions. The feeling, pace, and embellishments in these songs demonstrates this approach that I have not heard in many other guitarists." - Guitarra Magazine
"For any classical guitarists looking to explore some new music, look no further than this recording" - Timothy Smith, Minor7th.com

A nice first CD
author: Tapani RäikkönenI'm really glad that I bought this CD because it's different from the mass. There's many new composers with fine pieces I had never heard before, perhaps L. R. Kasilag and P. Talarm are most impressive I think. Perfecto De Castro knows how to interpret the innermost feelings of these fine melodies. Good starting point for new recordings!
mahusay!
author: burnisa kang tunay na henyo kapatid. paborito ko ang tracks 4 & 5. you make us all proud.
Intoxicating
author: Charles RathmannThe ability to manipulate an instrument with skill is one component of mastery, while the other component consists of the ability to use that skill to affect us as individuals. Perf De Castro clearly posesses both of these components of mastery, and listening to this CD will leave all but the most jaded listeners deeply moved.
Great music
author: Ken RhodesThis is some really great music from Perfecto. The Weiss peices definitely stand out from the traditional arrangements, but the simple beauty of "Dahil sa Isang Bulaklak (Because of a Flower)" is truly wonderful, as are all the other tracks. Perf's skill with the ten-string is evident in every note and he is a very expressive artist. I am really looking forward to hearing more from him.
An excellent first CD. The 10-String is played beautifully.
author: Richard LThe two Weiss pieces were exceptional and Perf used the 10-string guitar to good effect. I enjoyed his arrangments of the folk pieces and the Sylph Dance and the Canco Trista were interesting. I like the idea of introducing us to new and original pieces. What I would REALLY like, however, is for Perf to compile a CD with more Renaissance or Baroque pieces using the 10-string guitar. Despite my sincere interest in the other tracks of his CD, I really find the Fantasie and Allegro by Weiss to be my favorites.
Simply sensational sound
author: Michel GriffinFrom the classical purity of Weiss's 'Fantaisie' & 'Allegro', to the lyricism of Leopoldo Silos's 'Dahil sa Isang Bulaklak' and the more modern rhythms and mood swings of Rohan Leach's 'Sylph Dance' suite, Perfecto De Castro takes you on an unforgettable musical journey. The depth and purity of the sound he coaxes - apparently effortlessly - out of his 10-string guitar is breathtaking. This is a simply beautiful album.
