Psychedelic/Progressive/Indie Rock

notes

Pax Romana is a New York based Psychedelic/Progressive/Indie rock group that was formed from the ashes of The Killjoys, Vicious Dylan, and The Flooded Sundays in 2002 by two sets of brothers. Members Mike Horgan, Frank McNenney, Rob Horgan, and Mike McNenney (all born and raised in the Bronx, New York) worked together to put together a modern Psychedelic indie rock group featuring elements from all across the musical spectrum (including Folk, Surf, Garage, Doo-Wop, Swing, Jazz, Blues, Shoegaze, etc). The band consists of four singer/songwriters, assuring that every song is unique and filled with (valid attempts at) intricate harmonies. Their music is said to be sonically amazing.

  • Simply amazing!

This album is simply amazing the way the harmonize so prerfectly and the sound of mike's jazzy alternative drums, the mcnenney's musical talents have grown since Flooded Sunday's. This band has 4 members who contribute somthing very important (the perfect formula). Songs I recommend listeing to are Dance Above The Clouds, Here Comes The Blacksmith, A Bird Kills A Woman, And Voyage Of The Kitty Cat Man. If You Love the beatles and Nirvana You will love Pax Romana

  • Very Beatles-esc
    author: Al Samson

This is a very interesting album. Every song is different due to the fact that there are 4 creative minds at work in this band. Every one of them writes lyrics and music, and in that sense they reflect the Beatles in how each song would either be Lennon's, McCartney's, Harrison's, or Starr's, only with Pax Romana's album, it's M.McNenney, M.Horgan, F.McNenney, or R.Horgan. On top of that, each one of these 4 musicians, sings. This means 4 lead singers, and 4 part harmonies. Beatles? I think so. Each song is different just like Lennon doing a blues jam on "Yer Blues", and McCartney doing a punk rocker with "Helter Skelter", this band has Psychedelic Rock songs, Surf Rock songs, Garage Rock songs, 50's style Rock songs, etc. And best of all you can tell it's not in that "We're so eclectic, blah blah blah." wanna-be way. This band rocks, and I'd be so bold to say they could be the next Beatles, if the music industry would shape up and get their heads out of their asses. This band is the return of psychedelic rock. Take a listen to their lyrics. I sense they will grow to be even more psychedelic in their next release. THE RETURN OF PSYCHEDELIC ROCK IS UPON US.

  • It's like 13 little albums

Really now, each song sounds TOTALLY different "Rabies" is CBGB circa 1975. "Here Comes The Blacksmith" is Alice in Chains meets The Beatles(if you can imagine that..) "Approaching Holy" is a re-imagined "All Along The Watchtower" with it's Dylan-esqe lyrics. "Voyage Of The Old Kitty Cat Man" could have topped the charts with it surf rock sounds in 1964. And the NINE minute instrumental sounds like IRON BUTTERFLY...HOW old are this kids? All teenagers?..what are they feeding them and where can WE get some? Recommended.

  • A breath of fresh air.
    author: Roger Maristo

"Tapir Quasar and The Bloody" is a breath of fresh air in a time in music dominated with garbage such as rap, pop and bands like Greenday and All American Rejects. It is the first CD I've heard in years that is anything like the quality of music that was seen in the 1960's and early 1970's. Influences of the Beatles, Dylan, Bowie and Crimson are heard on this album and each song complements well of each other.
