Ladies and Gentlemen
Thanks for visiting. I hope you like the snippets of my disc, "The Fundus Among Us". All the tune on the disc are original compositions. Kudos to those who can identify where I stole the changes for some of the tunes. I played all the instruments except for the drums. Most of the recording was done on a Stoneman fretless 5 and a Bass Collection Fretless 5. For some of the tunes, like "The Velvet Elvis" (The highlight of the disc; don't miss that one), I played the chords on a fretted Hohner B2A five string bass. All with a high c string. Guitar used is a mid 80's Carvin DC-200.
Just a little rant on who I am. My musical training started in grade school where I played clarinet and saxophone in about all the concert, jazz, and marching bands there was. In ninth grade I bought a Fender Musicmaster bass (Ahh..Lake Placid Blue!) because wind instruments just didn't cut it in a rock-n-roll band. Later, one of my teachers was Carmen Caramanica,. For you central New Yorkers, he is the jazz cat you need to be around. I took a little hiatus from music to attend optometry school, which is how I pay the bills. In the meantime I've played in a whole bunch of rock bands and jazz combos. For the last eleven years I've been playing with the Ageless Jazz Band (www.ageless-jazz.org) which is a 17 piece big band that has afforded me the opportunity to gig in Aruba nine times. Oh yes, soft gig, baby! So yeah, I can read. For the last year and a half I've been playing also with the Purple Valley (www.lightlink.com/purple/), a five piece blues/rockabilly outfit that's just a gas to play in. The leader, John Saylor, has more fun on stage than is humanly possible. I recommend that you search out people who LOVE to play music. It matters more than I can say.
Trust your gut and you will thrive.
Need a bass player? Look me up. Got some cool jam to share? Please do!

Great Grooves!
author: Frank CamposPaul Kempkes is a marvelous musician who also happens to be my eye doctor! This is what it is about: creating music for the sheer joy of it and sharing it with others. Paul has the chops to really pull off a great bass solo over the changes of All of Me (see track 8, Some of Me--my favorite), but the main thing here is the grooves. Paul isn't pushy or obnoxious about it, he just lays it down. Relaxed, but with great focus and energy. Easy to listen to and enjoy. I recommend it--listening to Paul Kempkes' music will put you in a good mood!
