An artist who excels both as a harmonically sophisticated and swinging jazz pianist as well as a sensitive vocalist who reads a lyric with warmth and conviction; this is a classy jazz trio album.

notes
"Although highly regarded by critics and fellow musicians, Patti Wicks is one of jazz's best-kept secrets. She's a first-rate pianist, with an inexhaustible supply of fresh melodic, harmonic and rhythmic ideas, and a warm, sensitive vocalist who interprets a meticulously chosen repertoire without a trace of affectation or hollow hipness. Room At The Top, Wicks' debut CD featuring bassist Don Payne and drummer John Yarling, establishes her as a world-class singer-pianist in the tradition of Nat Cole, Blossom Dearie, Shirley Horn, Audrey Morris and Vivian Lord. Make room for the gifted Ms. Wicks."

Washington City Paper/Jazz Times
"PATTI WICKS IS WONDERFUL.
What a tasty, musical, imaginative artist, a real jazz singer... a first-rate jazz pianist who never would or could play a bad chord - a musician through and through."
* Richard Rodney Bennett
It should be noted that Patti has the rare ability to excel as a singer, and as an instrumentalist, which talents place her in a very select category. In one moment her playing is robust and muscular, and in the next it's delicate and wistful. The same could be said about her reading of a lyric.
Concert Review-by Mort Fega
"Miss Wicks shows curiosity and selectivity in her material. Her music is full bodied, vigorously rhythmic and has a strong feel for structure, dynamics and melodic essence."
* John S. Wilson - THE NEW YORK TIMES
"Please allow me to join the chorus of voices raised in praise of Patti Wicks' cd 'Room At The Top.' Patti is my kind of singer: no-nonsense delivery, excellent song choices, playing beautifully for herself, and I detect a very attractive Pinky Winters/Jeri Southern vocal quality I find most appealing."

Patti is rare talent, incredible musical taste, and awesome interpretations!
author: Dick Clark, Clark Piano JazzPatti Wicks is one of the finest vocal / pianist in the business. It is such a delight to hear a vocalist who offers fresh interpretations of classic tunes who doesn't sound like someone else. Check out "Surrey with the Fringe On Top"...particularly the bridge. Patti is one of kind...don't miss enjoying her talent.
simply wonderful piano playing and very good singing
author: John CoxThis is a cracking good disc by any standards, never mind that it's a debut. Patti Wicks is tremendous, and she swings like no-one I've heard since Barbara Carroll. And the ideas! Interesting if idiosyncratic singing, which convinces me totally. And what a rhythm section. Lift is what it's all about and lift is what it's got. Excellent sound too. When do we goet Vol. 2?

Great mix of instrumentals and vocals. A couple of originals by bass player, good chioce of standards also. The recording quality is also very good.
