The Vocal Artist

What is a classical tenor to do when he doesn’t want to sing opera? Like most classically-trained tenors, Patrick Stalinski can list many of the master works among his repertoire. While Patrick’s early career focused on classical sacred performances, his real passion is to re-create traditional music in new ways. For those who would not normally listen to classical music, he strives to give them a taste of music’s power and still feel like they are listening to something new. He sometimes describes the genre-stretching style of his first two albums as “classically-flavored new age pop.”

A rare ‘natural’ tenor, Patrick’s range and versatility are evidenced throughout his work. From Bach Cantatas to Broadway tunes, he’s even dared to sing Denver, bringing audiences to tears with his own rendition of Annie’s Song. He is a torch song tenor, a la Rondstadt’s ‘Round Midnight but with the power and passion of Pavarotti.

The Recordings

A trip to Boulder, Colorado in 1996 cemented a relationship with composer Yves Vincent of San Diego, who began writing new arrangements to accompany Patrick's natural tenor voice. Pat believed it wasn't enough to simply sing the familiar songs in their traditional way, and the soul of Yves' arrangements made the perfect match to the passion of his voice. Yves says, “Patrick’s clear voice sings straight to the soul.”

In March 1997, the pair completed their first release, To Sing A Prayer, which includes such favorites as Ave Maria, Amazing Grace and the moving spiritual, Were You There? In their second album, Christmas Reborn, the team risks again the boundaries of traditional music genres with a sound that transcends them all. While demonstrating his passion and versatility, Patrick’s Christmas album makes listeners dance, cry, smile … and well, really listen.
