notes
It has been received wisdom that Ronny Weiser licensed the Crown LP tracks from Joe Bihari to reissue over three Rollin’ Rock singles in the late 1970s, and even recent reissues on Ace Records in the UK have continued to confirm this erroneous assumption. So, imagine how delighted I was when my friend and long-time collector Dave Luxton gave me his copy of Crown LP 5364, only to find that all of the Pat Cupp tracks differed slightly from those with which I had become familiar since the 1970s. They are obviously all from the mammoth 13th May 1956 session that produced the debut RPM single and the takes used on the Rollin’ Rock releases, but there are definite differences in Pat’s vocal emphasis and on his shouted exhortations to Johnny Gatlin’s blistering Scotty Moore inspired lead guitar solos.
So, I believe for the first time, you will find here a clutch of Pat’s 1956 rockabilly classics that have been unreissued for over forty years!
Let’s go one more time, Johnny!
