notes
pariah. consists of two members: MIT undergrad Robby Bryant and a beat-up old IBM Thinkpad. So, granted, there aren't a lot of us, but at least we're both sexy.
Past this surface, pariah. can be a little bit bewildering. It seems to weave together techno, trip-hop, rave, downtempo, industrial, classical, and big beat into a sometimes dark, complicated fabric that somehow ends up sounding good. This can be a little much for the casual listener, but that's exactly what I set out to do 4 years ago. pariah. music is a reflection of all the emotions and thoughts that I have experienced since first downloading that copy of FL Studio senior year of high school and tooling around with it in my bedroom, and it is meant to for you to get a feeling for that experience. It is different, it is urban, sometimes it is dark, and I hope it makes you feel something when you listen.
The long term goals of pariah. are simple: get the music out there, and build some little niche fan base that enjoys that music. There is no desire for a record label or mainstream success. pariah. is meant for the electronic music kid who wants to try something a little new, the underground listener who glories in finding obscure music he can jam to, the student whose curiosity is piqued by non-traditional harmonies, the music-head who revels in finding new experimental things. If these people listen to my music, and they enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed writing it, then I have succeeded. And if I manage to add something to the genres I work in, or help inspire someone else to write even better music, or produce a beat that gets some MC a bit of reknown, then that's a wonderful extra.

A brilliantly crafted album drawing from diverse corners of the electronic world
author: LizA brilliantly crafted album drawing from diverse corners of the electronic world. At times hypnotic and at times energetic, pariah delivers a full spectrum of mood and emotion. Songs like Done are ethereal, mesmerizing and almost eerie, while Rave On and others are dynamic and sure to get your blood pumping. Be prepared to find yourself dancing wildly to the irresistable beats and driving rhythms found within. Looking forward to more from this up and coming young artist!
Awesome mood music!
author: TimComing into this CD, I didn’t really know what to expect. I like the lounge music I’ve heard (Thievery Corporation), and I definitely enjoy action-movie style beat music, but I don’t like traditional techno, trance, or rave much at all. Luckily, I was totally impressed. What’s so amazing about A First Rate Education is that pariah. manages to blend all the lounge music and the beat music and the strings and a ton of other material with the techno and rave, and produces something that I love to listen to. The key is the mood he creates. Almost every song is just drenched in feeling or atmosphere. The background stuff and the melodies and rhythms all come together, building off of and reinforcing each other. When you listen to the best tracks, like ‘Just A Little Touch’ (a badass Matrix-style track with violin and cello) or ‘Fly’ (a pretty synth, piano, chillout beat) you can see the music as well as hear it (listen to the crazy sound fabric in ‘Done’ around 2:40 to hear what I mean). I am blown away by the fact that one college kid can put together every single note in such an original way and still create such cohesive feelings in his music. Definitely buy this album, or at least download some of the full tracks at the pariah. website.
Great stuff overall
author: PeterGreat stuff overall. Needs a bit more polish, but the content is all there. A nice, new spin on a lot of different genres. I’ll definitely be listening to the next album.
Provocatively thoughtful and imaginative - An Exciting Emotional Experience
author: Chris SimeoneThe album takes the listener on an exciting emotional journey from beginning to end. The stylistic mood, tempo and harmony all provide for this. One clearly feels the transition from the bumpy to the smooth; from subtle chaos to peaceful order; from mysterious intrigue to spritual enlightenment. More than just a treat for the ears, the album is truly an experience for the heart and mind.
