Paradigm blends modern jazz exploration with the raw power and sonic possibilities of indie rock, with some prog tendencies thrown in for good measure.

notes

Paradigm creates anthems for the subconscious. The music flits in and out of genres and moods: at times heavy and driving, sometimes funky and joyous, and other times drifting in dreamy sonic explorations. It is ambient, yet harmonically complex, with powerful themes that propel the music ever forward. Paradigm constructs memorable melodies that haunt the mind for days on end, providing a soundtrack to the movie that is life.

Paradigm has continued to probe and absorb musical influences and new sonic textures, all while retaining the spirit of improvisation and sense of freedom one would expect from a highly skilled group of jazz musicians. The result, captured in Melodies For Uncertain Robots, is the emergence of a strikingly original group voice which has been called a dance-oriented blend of progressive jazz and art rock.

Paradigm is:
Brian Healey - Keyboards/Samples
Jonathan Epley - Guitar
Myron Koch - Saxophone
Will Roberts - Bass
Evan Pouchak - Drums

  • Certain Robots

I'm sure these robots are least certain that they like this cd. Overall it has great, sweeping melodies that fill the entire album. All the tracks seemlessly fit together, and it feels as though every song stems from a central idea. There are a few shaky transitions that feel tedious even though they provide for some fantastic progression. Finally, as a jazz fusion album, I would definitely recommend it. It is diverse in its usage of tactical instrumentation, and the unique combination of drums, guitar, sax, keyboard, and bass makes any listener ask, Why aren't there more bands like this one? Solid four stars
