The Palm School Choir is great! Listening to the kids (and the band!) makes you smile. It's a happy CD. You'll love it!
Truly Original
author: Richie BoyThe Palm School Choir is one-of-a-kind. A public elementary school choir backed by a grown-up rock band of seasoned pros, singing the original rocking tunes of choir director Gavin Tabone. If hearing dozens of tiny, tuneful voices extolling the power of One Good Rock Show doesn't leave you grinning, you aren't human, my friend. Other songs communicate the essence of childhood, both good and bad, with genuine empathy and hopefulness, without condescending to a child's point of view. This record is beautifully performed and masterfully recorded. It's clearly a labor of love, and one you'll love listening to.

Most school choir recordings are no more than keepsakes for their parent’s archives, stowed away and forgotten stock arrangements of bored students singing predictable repertoire. Not so with Austin’s Palm School Choir. There’s a reason media outlets like NBC’s Today Show have beat a path to their door; there’s just not much out there to compare with these young, disciplined, elementary kids belting out their big, broad-shouldered and ambitious pop creations. Leader Gavin Tabone writes and arranges the clever material, and he clearly has something other than the usual time-killing elective in mind for his students; he’s teaching them music, real music, purely of their own creation (along with the occasional Flaming Lips cover), and the kids’ excitement on their brand new double CD is both palpable and contagious. ____________________________________________________ Jeff McCord Music Director KUT 90.5 FM Austin TX
