Latin swing at it's best.

notes

If you're looking for a sampling of the best Latin Music out there, you can find the very best on Paco Gatsby's CDs. Founded by trumpeter/arranger Bob Porter, whose credits range from Lassie and Laugh In to Kay Starr and more, a travelling pioneer for the Baha'i Faith who moved to Guatemala in 1970, set up camp and stayed there only to become one of their most recognized musicians and artists. His band, Paco Gatsby, performs regularly at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee almost every year in May and they seem to be the highlight of the event, showcasing not only the top Latin hits, but some of Bob's Dixieland arrangements of Guatemalan folkloric classics such as "Ferrocarril de los Altos", mixed in with the latest merengue, salsa, cha cha and a whole lot more. What more could you ask for?

  • Dance Dance Dance!

Another purely enjoyable offering by Paco Gatsby! Several of the songs will be instantly familiar to American listeners, and the rest will quickly grow on you. It starts with the rollicking “Caramelo” – I defy you to resist the urge to get up and dance! Even the slower “Harlem Nocturne” makes me think dance: I would love to see my favorite ice dancers perform to this recording. If, like me, your only knowledge of the song ‘She Bangs’ is from the laughably incompetent American Idol auditioner, you will be absolutely amazed at the result of having it sung by a talented singer. I discovered that I actually like the song when it’s given proper musical treatment. If you’re planning a dance party, anything by Paco Gatsby is a good choice to get the crowd on their feet and keep them there. And if you’re not planning a dance party, they’re just plain good listening.

  • LOVE IT!

I listen to it every morning to wake up. What better reminder to start the day with God on your mind? My favorite cd right now, by far, and has been for about 5 months.
