Now back to our story...
Like a great graceful white bird, the staysail Schooner Woodwind has flown across the Chesapeake Bay and back, and she's sailing into the sun setting over the Statehouse dome in Annapolis when Maritime Folk Heroes Jeff Holland and Kevin Brooks take over the helm and ease into an spinning a grand tale, of pirates of old (not unlike modern day lawyers) and the Blood of the Bold Picaroon. Since leaving the dock, the boat's cargo have been laughing, singing and sailing with Holland and Brooks, better known as the Annapolis-based singing-songwriting team of "Them Eastport Oyster Boys".
Why they love this place-the Bay broadly, and Annapolis's maritime heart, the neighborhood called Eastport, more specifically-has to do with the details. Worn-out boat shoes. Smelly wet dogs who shake all over you. Crabbing. A history richer than a pirate's buried treasure. Maryland beaten biscuits. A good sailors' pub. A lovely white workboat, lonely and old. The sight of the sun setting over the water. A fine breeze in the evening. What a life!
"Full Moon Crusin'" captures all that plus great music performed by members of The Back Creek Back Up Band and the Horn Point Horns. From swing to chanteys, Dixie to Cuban and Irish traditional to beach music... them Boys pack all that joy and laughter, culture and history into a song that is all most too good for words.
With beers in their pockets and songs in their hearts, Them Eastport Oyster Boys sure look like they're having fun, so come on, the crabs are hot, the Natty Boh cold and the water is fine.
