A wonderful selection of classic ragtime, well played, very tasteful
author: Steve KoehlerI quite enjoyed "Kitten On The Keys-I 'm something of a fanatic about Ragtime Piano, and believe me, I've got a lot of it. However I have found through the years that it can all start sounding pretty much the same. "Kitten On The Keys" has what I think this genre needs, which is an artist's individual touch that breathes life into these sometimes overplayed compositions. I have the same criticism of Ragtime piano as I do of a lot of Ragtime guitar that I hear, which is that it's often played too technically, and therefore the bassline, which is the real heart and soul of the music, is essentially neutered, which to me ="yawwwn" The music on this cd has strong, playful basslines, which I feel is the essence of good Ragtime. The greatest single example of this that I can think of are the basslines in the music of Blind Blake, that most exellent Ragtime guitarist. His incredible basslines on the guitar put him above almost all other Rag guitarists.(in fact all of them,in my opinion) I think this cd has that same fun, funky rythym and tastefull melody, keeping to the original spirit of the music. Bravo!
