notes

Oskar Saville, a New York-based singer-songwriter, began her career playing London venues with a local band called Seed. After playing in the London circuit for almost a year, Oskar became more enchanted with pursuing her singing career back in The U.S. and decided to return to her hometown of Chicago, where she earned her stripes as a musician the hard way, playing open mikes and teaching herself to play the guitar.

In 1998, Oskar joined the Chicago-based band Rubygrass. Subsequently, they were named the best band in Chicago at the Guinness Fleadh music festival, which featured a lineup including artists such as Wilco, The Corrs, John Lee Hooker, and Sinead O'Connor. Rubygrass went on to open up for concerts by groups such as The Corrs, Del Amitri, Collective Soul and 10,000 Maniacs.

After four years of singing with Rubygrass, and playing venues in Chicago and New York, Oskar decided to relocate to New York City to embark on her solo career. She packed up her truck and guitar and headed east where she would soon stake her claim as a powerful solo songwriter and vocalist who win critical acclaim and comparison to the likes of Janis Joplin and Natalie Merchant.

With such promising accolades, it would only seem logical that 10,000 Maniacs would ask her to join their band as the lead singer. While Oskar is in full pursuit of her solo career, her love of collaboration and performing prompted her to accept the exciting opportunity to sing with the band.

  • Wow

Oskar is incredible as the new lead singer of the 10000 Maniacs. This solo CD is a great introduction to a woman that will blow anyone with her lyrics and voice.

  • Come back!
    author: Rob

Rubygrass = 5 stars A Girl Named Oskar = 5 stars I saw MANY Rubygrass performances in Chicago (including Rubygrass AND 10,000 Maniacs at Lakeview Links), her Rubygrass reunion at the Park West two or three years ago and then as part of 10,000 Maniacs at the Last Fling in Naperville, IL. Funny thing about the Rubygrass/10,000 Maniacs show (years back) was that Rubygrass was better than the Maniacs. Oskar - Just come back! No more Maniacs songs! Please do your own material!

  • This is great stuff! I can see why 10,000 Maniacs want her

After reading about her as an addition to the 10,000 Maniacs I went to Oskar's website to learn more about her and then to CD Baby as she had a link on her site to listen and buy her cd. Glad I did. She has a great sound about her that reminds me a lot of Sass Jordan and also Melissa Etheridge. I bet I've played it a dozen times already and enjoy it more each time. She will be a great asset to front 10,000 Maniacs. Looking forward to hearing more from her.
