notes
Olya's new Ukrainian children's recording is finally here!
Multi-talented Olya Fryz (a.k.a. Olya Chodoba-Fryz) is an accomplished vocalist & bandura instrumentalist who has been entertaining audiences for over 20 years and has been an instructor for the past 15 years. As a first generation Ukrainian-American, Olya's contemporary musical interpretations preserve her love for traditional Ukrainian song.
For this children's recording, Olya combined forces with Slavko Halatyn (producer, arranger, recording engineer, and an extroardinary musician). The result is fantastic! Great music, fun arrangements, and a beautiful and pleasant voice. "Shcho za hamir" is sure to be a family favorite.
Olya began performing again the summer of 2004 with the repertoire from her first 3 successful Ukrainian CD's. Her audiences welcomed her back and wanted new material. As a rookie mom (with 2 children who were her main inspiration behind this recording!) and a seasoned music teacher, this children's album project was the next natural step. From a mom's perspective Olya wanted to preserve the songs that she had grown up with and fallen in love with. From a music teacher's perspective, Olya wanted to introduce her new listeners to various styles of music while giving them the chance to sing their own versions with the musical tracks included.
Growing up in NYC Olya is known by many for her various performances and recordings with the Homin Stepiv Bandura Ensemble, the New York Bandura Ensemble's original NY School of Bandura, the Promin Vocal ensemble and several wedding bands. Olya emerged as a solo vocalist who set out to develop her music creatively and instinctively to reflect traditional Ukrainian concepts with individualized arrangements and flair. Olya also incorporates her Ukrainian dancing background into her performances. Recently Olya has been performing special children's shows featuring an audience interactive show that is quite entertaining and fun for her young audiences! (Not to mention their parents as well!) Be sure to visit www.olyafryz.com for a listing of upcoming performances and events.
Olya's performance credits include concerts and festivals throughout the United States and Canada including Lincoln Center, Verkhovyna Festival in Glen Spey NY, cabarets in Chicago, Detroit, Soyuzivka, NY; seminars at elementary schools, various fundraising events (especially CCRF), the "Razom Festival" in Edmonton, Canada, Liberty State Park Celebrations in NYC, and the United Nations International Citizens World Music Concert.
Olya has to her credit 3 other very popular Ukrainian albums: "Zhadaj" - Remember, "Zaprosy u sny" - Into Your Dreams and Mother's Lullabies. "Zaprosy u sny" has just been reprinted and is now also available on cdbaby.com/olya You can hear all of the songs which are a collection of folk and contemporary pieces performed in a very soothing and beautiful style.
Olya's anxiously awaited new recording featuring sing along Ukrainian children's song's is finally available! Olya's talent, enthusiasm and spirit add another dimension to the world of Ukrainian music, which has been her love forever!

totally fun for everyone!
author: LesiaThis cd is full of great songs to dance and sing along with. A great choice of songs for kids, and the music is well done (meaning we can listen to it over, and over, and over, and over...)!
Fun, fresh & energetic for the whole family
author: The Duplak Family of WinnipegThe music makes you want to get up and dance. The lyrics make you want to sing at the top of your lungs!! Its fun, fresh, energetic!! There are lots of memories to be made with your family singing and dancing together.
Terrific; she has the voice of an angel.
author: Mark DydykThe CD is that of traditional Ukrainian songs I sang in CYM when I was growing up. The music accompanied by the artists voice is angelic. Strongly recommended.
Chudovy - fantastic
author: Handzia Shuhevychas some of the other reviews have already stated, this CD is great, must admit that it is one of the first CDs that have had my two boys singing along, and I have tried many. Djakuyu! Thanks!
Great CD! Fun for the whole family.
author: Mary Ann BilanychThis is a great CD. Brings back old memories of tabir. Your children will love it! Fun for the whole family.
Excellent for kids and adults alike!
author: LydiaMy 21 month-old can't get enough of this CD, and it's the first kids' CD every adult really enjoys as well (including me, who hears it at least 5 times a day in the car!) Everyone sings along with Olya (and dances) - the kids love the orchestration and tempo of the upbeat songs, as well as the more mellow lyrical songs. Kudos to the entire team for putting together a real treat for the kids and a wonderful, musical walk down memory lane for the parents!

The CD is excellent! Beautiful vocals & fantastic music! Looking forward to the next CD!
A wonderful CD you'll be happy to listen to over and over and over...
author: Lada BidiakThis is a wonderful CD!! Our 3-year-old dances around the house, wiggles around in her car seat, and sings along with me to these Ukrainian children's classics. It's an incredible flashback to my childhood - except this recording is much better than the ones that I grew up with. This is one CD you won't mind listening to a dozen times a day!!
A must have cd...for children and adults...
author: Donna BilanychI love listening to it...sometimes getting choked up. It brings back memories from when I was young and first learned these songs. I am so glad that now I can share the songs and memories with my children. Tania, 7 years old also loves it, when she gets in the car the first thing she asked for is to play this cd.

Heard some of these songs live. What a great CD! some of these songs I haven't heard in a long time so it's nice to hear these and bring back a lot of memories. My kids love it too! We are all having a great time with the CD! Job well done.
Excellent CD for children!
author: ChristineMy daughter and I really enjoy listening to this CD. Olya did a fantastic job modernizing old time favorites Ukrainian songs.
need to add this to your CD collection!
author: Myron HPart of the beauty of this children's CD is that it's not just for the kids - adults too will enjoy it and walk away humming and, perhaps, happily a bit nostalgic. This CD bridges generations. Perfect vocals and masterful and creatively diverse music arrangements.

Now here's a new approach to upbeat, unusually catchy children's music- it's Ukrainian. But whether you or your kids understand the lyrics or not, its clever, cartoonish and intelligent folk and poprock mix comes across either way and reaches kids of all ages, from toddlers up through grade school. Think of it as a great way to expose your child to world culture while enjoying playful, distinctively different songs. This one is a joy from start to finish and comes highly recommended for families.
