Welcome to the Now School, a spontaneous dimension which revolves around each moment and it's significant simplicity. Welcome to a world in which technology and evolution allow independence like we have never known before. Welcome to the chaotically methodical music of Oaxerai.
Oaxerai defines the concept of a 21st century one man crew, accomplishing nearly everything on his own. A true do-it-yourselfer, Oaxerai could be described in countless ways. His poetic philosophy, production, and spoken words are experimental and innovative. His messages are both positive and provocative. His performances are energetic whether he is alone, with a DJ or with a live band.
Oaxerai is an urban journalist and activist who speaks loud and clear about his social and political views. His content contrasts commercial standards defiantly. His lifestyle displays a discipline uncommon in today's society.
Oaxerai stays busy with booking, promoting, event coordinating, mixing and recording, for himself as well as for others. In the last 2 years he has played a major creative role in the production of 4 albums, a 7" record and a cassette tape. This includes his newest album entitled "Birthrite. Firstright. The Freedom to Speak." This conceptual album consists of 80 minutes of raw, political criticism and personal introspection.
He has been active in the Philadelphia music scene since 1995, helping to keep live instrumentation as a real presence in Philly's underground hip hop circuit. He has over 200 shows experience and is now a partner in an independent record label called Sacred Round Records.
Oaxerai strives to stretch the boundaries of what has traditionally been known as hip hop. His influences include reggae, jazz, funk, soul, latin, and world music. He is a native Philadelphian and college graduate who dedicates much of his non-musical time to working with children. His name alone suggests the kind of creativity and originality that you will find throughout this artist's personality and music.
