notes
Leslie's 5 song sampler CD, 5, has all of the power and magnetism of her full length CD, Tenderland, but a few never-before-released gems (including an unforgettably sensual cover of Bruce Springsteen's I'M ON FIRE), that place her at the top of the list of our great singer/songwriters.
Leslie Nuchow is from Brooklyn, New York. Annie Lennox, of the Eurythmics, says Leslie's voice: "stands alone in its own category".
Leslie has been featured on MTV, VH1, Dateline NBC, Good Morning America, and CNN . She was awarded the Gleitsman Foundation Award of Achievement for her commitment and leadership in initiating social change.
After winning a nation-wide talent search, Leslie was invited to perform at Lilith Fair. She shared the stage with Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, the Dixie Chicks, Indigo Girls and Deborah Cox. Leslie has sung for Nelson Mandela and is featured on Refuge, a compilation CD with Peter Gabriel.
In 1997 Leslie was approached to participate in a high-profile promotion run by the Virginia Slims cigarette company. In keeping with her belief that music has the power to heal and should not be used to harm, Leslie turned down their offer and started Virginia SLAM!, an organization committed to exposing corporate deception and exploitation. Leslie also started SLAM!Records, a record label devoted to targeting industries or organizations which hurt humanity, and SLAM!ing them with the healing power of music.
Leslie's first CD Tenderland, which is receiving constant airplay throughout U.S. and Canada, combines a voice of immense power and sensuality with politically and personally astute lyrics. She moves between Sarah McLachlan soft and Alanis Morissette hard to create an original work that feels timeless. Leslie's music is featured on an Emmy Award winning documentary hosted by Leeza Gibbons and produced by Academy Award winning producer Arnold Shapiro.
Leslie is also a hot-sauce-eating champion.
