notes
This is the second album by the Los Angeles based jazz-rock group "Mosaic." (The group has recently changed its name to "Never Like Now" to avoid confusion with other groups currently using the name.)
This CD contains 12 splendidly crafted musical mini-dramas which demonstrate the remarkable creativity and flexibility of its members. Just take note of the mystical moonscapes on "The Event Horizon," the African sound collage which carries "Stick Figure," or the haunting voice-driven "Incantation." The most astonishing of these, however, is the totally improvised intro and exit to the title track "Expatriate Blues." Mimicking an Asian market place, all instruments and sounds were created by the band members!
This collection now includes the bonus track "Sand Dance," recorded for but not included in the original release of this CD on the Sonic Atmospheres imprint.
DIGITAL RECORDING HISTORY: This recording was the first to be produced in an entirely digital environment at a major LA studio in the early-90s. The CD was tracked through the amazing AMS Neve Capricorn console to two Sony DASH 24-track recorders augmented by four Tascam DA-88 8-track recorders.
Never Like Now is: Joel Alpers [drums], Katisse Buckingham [woodwinds], Chris Clermont [guitar], Justin Reinhardt [keyboards].
Guests on this CD include: John Fremgen [acoustic and electric bass], Cassio Duarte [percussion], Luis Conte [percussion], Tony Lujan [trumpet], Craig Fundyga [vibraphone, steel drums], Ron King [trumpet], Andy Martin [valve and slide trombone].

I wish I could give it more stars than just 5!!! ;-)
author: bluemanThis CD is absolutely excellent! I wish you could hear this kind of music on the radio. The compositions are so intriguing and powerful. I love this CD as much as my favorite classic jazz rock fusion records of the seventies! Brilliant!
