this is a great album, buy it and enjoy it for years. A brilliant guitar player with a singing voice like a choir boy drinking shots of whiskey. Hendrix, Stevie Ray, Keith Richards, Nils is in this class of guitar heros.

  • A stunning mix of styles

When i first heard this album i was blown away by it, the guitar playing brings a tear to the eye, especially the gorgeous beginning to "Seize love" "Puting out fires" is a real toe tapper which has you singing along from the start but also has you marvelling at the guitar playing coursing through the songs stucture, "Driftin man" a collaboration with Lou Reed stays in your mind and has you singing it to yourself all the time such is its catchiness. The album is a great mix of styles which showcase this mans extreme talent, if showbiz wages were paid by the ounce of talent, this guy would be richer than Bill Gates!!

  • Steller !

Nils Lofgren is a strong songwriter and producer in his own right. Lofgren is a dynamic guitarist yet he also plays keyboards, Dobro, harmonica, accordion and percussion on this diverse collection. Break Away Angel features solid rockers and reflective ballads. The lyrics are serious and the songs are well constructed with many guest musicians adding textures and tones to Lofgren's soaring guitar leads. 'Puttin Out Fires' has a snappy groove, soulful vocals and plenty of innovative guitar licks. 'I Found You' features layered rhythms and a bounty of inventive guitar sounds. 'Tears Ain't Enough' juxtaposes the serious topic of poverty with an up-tempo flow accented by a spirited fiddle. The song has a country flavor with edge. 'Driftin Man' is a collaboration with Lou Reed, it starts off slow and reflective as it delicately picks up the tempo with creative instrumentation. The beat is subtle, allowing the guitar and the storytelling to carry the song. This CD is steller!

  • Wonderfully compiled in every aspect possible from truly gifted musicians

This album brings back the memorable Sunday night in Stafford, UK, Autumn 2002. The thrill of the magnificent opener Putting Out Fires will last with me forever, I could not quite believe what I was hearing and the fact that it was in such an little known tiny venue - I only got the tickets on the Friday night, before purely by chance, when I picked up the ad in the small print of the local paper! The marvellous mix of pure Nils Lofgren's rock 'n roll, blues and his own unique ballards/love songs is absolutely unbelievable. Bringing back all sorts of 70's feel good times in the here and know whilst creating an incredible rush of adrenalin every time I repeatedly listen to the cd. Cannot pick out any one track, it is impossible, so I guess the biggest thing about the music is Nils and his Band and the way the whole experience is put together - one of the best albim's ever! When are you coming back over to the UK Nils? Come on I & probably many thousands would love to share in the experience of a live performance of this awesome album. Eternal thanks fredmillward@exchange.uk.com
