Solid, gritty songwriting, combined with a unique blend of blues, jazz and soul

notes

English singer songwriter Nicky Swann has been writing, recording and performing for fourteen years.

Originally starting out in the early nineties performing with her brother Mike as “Sad but True” they played acoustic cover versions of The Pretenders, Everything But The Girl, Eurthymics and Fairground Attraction songs to a mainly student audience. Later as Nicky began to write more and more her own music took over and the duo grew into a band set up with Lee James (“Shadowlands” and “Groove Tunnel”) on bass and James Sharpe on drums.
It wasn’t long before a self financed album was recorded. “Feeling Fine” was a mature ten track album drawing on blues, jazz and rock. In the late nineties the band, performing under Nicky’s name took an all original set to local audiences.

A second album was soon on its way with Nicky experimenting more with keyboards and synth sounds giving “Wishing I Was Home” a different feel.

Live performances with the band dwindled due to family commitments so Nicky hooked up with guitarist and bassist Nick Bayes and got back to basics. With Nick on guitar and Nicky on vocals they formed “Behind the Sun” and played extensively throughout the South West of England, performing covers and Nicky’s original material.
After three successful years with “Behind the Sun”, Nicky is now concentrating on her own material and is currently recording and performing with old band mate Lee James.

Sticking with top class new singer/songwriters we have the angel voiced NICKY SWANN from UK's South Devon. The lovely Nicky licenses the beautiful and melodic folk tinged ballad "feeling fine". This exceptional song starts off with melancholy jangly guitars that lead into the wonderful and very melodic vocals from South Devon's fastest rising star. Nicky's vocals are lovely and are in a world of their own but are also slightly Dolores Cranberry-esq at times. Nicky started out as an acoustic cover artist in local pubs and went on to record two top albums ( Feeling Fine" and "Wishing I was Home"). She was recently played on Gemini FM and performed a live set. Flowery, folk-tinged melodic organic proper pop with a timeless feel. Nicky Swann and her band ( Mike( her brother), James Sharp and Lee James) delivers sentimental songs of beauty. Excellent.
