notes

You’ve been waiting for something different?
Well she’s here. Here name is Carmen, Carmen Nickerson. And what she’s got to say is a must hear for fellas everywhere. I’m serious and I’m sure every lady will agree, this woman is tellin’ it like it should be told. Whether the subject is spousal abuse “TIME FOR YOU TO GO” (which chronicles a true story) or "I’M TOO GOOD FOR YOU", which is self explanatory, this woman lays it down. Every tracks is emotional, she speaks of how good it is and how sad it gets with a sense a passion that only she can confess.
Buy it now, “Carmen”, her debut cd for Da’ Soul Recordings. Your lady will love ya.

This cd is yet another gem delivered from DA' Soul. I very much enjoyed THAT'S A GOOD THING, HURT SO BAD, TIME FOR YOU TO GO, and I SEE THE LIGHT. Carmen's vocal stylings are quite the compliment for the smash arrangements on this disc. I recommend this cd to everyone who has ever been a cd baby customer.

This latest CD from the Da' Soul Recordings Group is truly a breath of fresh air to this listener. This CD project truly runs the gamut of the musical spectrum... The opening track written by Da' Soul Recordings artist Chazz Dixon and J Enterprises Artist and CEO of Da' Soul Recordings Group the artist/producer known as "J", really sets the mood off right. "That's A Good Thing" explores the value of a women who recognizes that having a good man that truly loves her is more important than material things. This smooth jazz type track is mellow and allows Carmen a chance to flow across the groove with ease. Track Two, "I Wonder", is right in the pocket with Carmen being blessed with the writing talents of Two Brothers Recordings Artist Ricardo who makes a cameo appearance on the track. The song is light and J keeps the groove moving with a snappy percussive beat that carmen gently caresses with a steady staccato chorus sung just under the soft silky lead that Carmen sings effortlessly... This gifted vocalist is truly doing something right as another Da' Soul Recordings Artist steps to the plate with a song for Carmen... Who you might ask? None other than Gary Brown (who I might add just released his sophomore project on the Da' Soul label, "Two." See my review at http://cdbaby.com/cd/garybrown05) "I see The Light" (which Gary also lends background vocals) is a sultry, jazzy, smooth and soulful ballad that truly showcases Carmens vocal ability as she sings about true romance. Gary and Carmens voices compliment one another in a wonderful mix of melodic bliss! Carmen can bring it on the funky tracks as well... "Temptation Eyes", Written by "J" is a bumpin' track that should keep the dance floor packed!! Then there's my favorite toe tapper on the CD, "Miss You Like Crazy" which features the writing talents of Chazz & "J" (who by the way collaborated on seven of the eleven tracks on this project) it is just plain F-U-N-K-Y!! Carmen really brings this track accross with a Teena Marie type vocal delivery that is just simply awesome. I can't say enough about this track, it has a funky bass beat and is sung with plenty of attitude! Carmen treats us to a couple of cover songs on this CD, "Hurt So Bad" as you may recall sung so beautifully by Linda Ronstadt and "I'll try Smomething New" (A duet with none other than Chazz Dixon)written by none other than the great Smokey Robinson... This is a timeless track which has been covered by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles (Of Course!) but Also recorded by: Dimples, Diana Ross & the Supremes, A Taste of Honey & The Tempting Temptations! Starting with the aforementioned track, "Hurt So Bad," I have one word for you... Passion. It's sung with plenty of it, and this song is sure to please. "I'll Try Someting New" is done with class and grace. Chazz & Carmen sound great together and really have great chemistry... As they sing this track you just can't help but believe in the passion they sing about... J lends great backing vocals on this track as well... The contrast in the voices are musical candy to my ears!! All in all a delightful cover of this classic tune. I have to admit, I really enjoyed the entire CD. Carmen and the talented crew at Da' Soul Recordings take me back to a time when I could go into a store and pick up my favorite artist ALBUM and know that I would get more than one good song and a bunch of fillers as is so often the case with todays current crop of artist. Carmen is truly a breath of fresh air and so versatile. I hope to hear much more from this artist in the future.
