notes
Nick is a singer/songwriter/actor, originally from Philadelphia, and now living in New York City. His music has been called: pop/rock/emo, NY indie guitar rock, Britpop-influenced/chemical rock. "Think Goo Goo Dolls meets Nine Inch Nails," says Dave Koenig of the JustUs League. "It's the blend of alternative and pop/acoustic rock that makes this dynamic guitarist/vocalist unique."
Nick describes his music as "the art of the everyday, accessible yet intelligent, emotional stories, songs that make you feel & think, music that takes you somewhere. I want it to draw you in & hook you, then make you think & stay with you. It's the kind of stuff that sneaks up on you and really grabs you. All of that in an accessible pop/rock package."
Hitting his stride with his third recording, the 2000 release, "What It Is" (its title track was a Hits! Magazine Featured Pick of 2001), Nick went on to work with late producer, Mike Klein (G. Love, David Garza), to create his latest and best work, "The Metrogrande Sessions." "Metrogrande" was recently nominated for CD of the Year. Songs from "Metrogrande" are on the soundtracks to several independent films. Three songs were picked for play by the producers of the TNT series, "Witchblade." And reviews have been excellent.
Don't forget to check out Nick's website. You can find out where & when Nick will be gigging, hear tracks from "What It Is," & check out the video for "It's Almost Over." There's always more to hear and see.

The best Nick has done!!! Great combinations of styles!!!!!!!
author: Colette HagovskyI enjoyed each song-good writing and good rhythms. This is one of Nicks best!!!! I really liked the slower songs and the expression is from the heart. I may be a bias but I love it and can't wait for the next one!!!!!

Well...This CD came without warning. I told myself I would check it out and when I started listening I smiled to myself. It was just great. I thought Nick's music was really awesome! I couldn't believe what I was hearing. If I had to explain it I would say its is a type of rock that I could just leave on and scan my backyard and think to myself. Nick has a nice voice. As a teenager I try to find a band that I like but I never really found one. Actually, I have a preference to his rock music to the stuff I hear on the radio or MTV. It takes you away for a bit just to think about your life and that's pleasant. Then again, some of is songs are really upbeat and fun to dance to. (And some are really depressing) heheh. I have sampled some of the Metrogrande songs to my friends. It has spread quickly and they have been visiting his website a lot. On occasion, one of my friends will hum it in the hallway. I’m sure his popularity will spread quickly. So go buy the CD and show your friends!
Compelling!
author: Laura Turner LynchNick's style is a mix of rock, adult alternative, Britpop and emo. DeMatteo writes poetic lyrics that are intriguing with dark captivating instrumentation. His emotional narratives have a mysterious stark feel that grabs the listener's attention right from the start. 'Behind the Shadow' consists of provocative lyrics, phantom vocals eclipsed by spirited guitars and a ghostly beat. This is followed by 'Come a Little Closer' with its haunting words and vocals that are both meaningful and mesmerizing. DeMatteo is dynamic!
outstanding--highly recommended
author: Rich BrundageThis is a wonderful album, full of well-crafted pop songs that get you thinking without making you work at it. Nick makes a difficult task seem easy: the style is familiar and inviting without ever sounding derivative. The music takes some delightfully unexpected turns, too. I haven't heard his previous work, but based on what I've heard here, I want all of it.
