notes
Nemesea is a female fronted gothic/rock band founded by vocalist Manda and guitar player H.J. in September 2002 at the conservatory in Groningen, Holland. Subsequent recruits thereafter would be second guitarist Martijn, bassplayer Sonny, and Steven on drums. After recording a 3 song demo Nemesea debuted live as support act to After Forever.
Shortly after Nemesea signed a deal with the small local label Ebony Tears in September of 2003 and recorded the debut album Mana in February of the following year in various studios. Maybe the most impressive thing of this release is the beautiful voice of Manda Ophuis.
Making Mana was a lot of effort, but made the band an instant rising star on the musical horizon. Nemesea toured intensively with After Forever but also did a lot of headline shows later on which gained the band a lot of attention and dedicated fans. Not to mention the great reviews.
In 2006 the band signed up at sellaband.com. Within a three months the band gathered many believers, and was the first band ever to raise the recording budget of $50.000. This made it possible for the band to record a second album, with the help of Tony Platt (a.o. AC/DC & Bob Marley) and Ronald Prent (a.o. Rammstein), and to take the music into a new direction. The album ‘In Control’ was released in June 2007.

In Control
author: Kate McKillionI'd listened to the samples before buying the CD,I'm overwhelmed with this album, every track is amazing! Manda has a beautiful vocal range,so crystal clear and the music is fantastic,I've played in non stop for 8hrs since I got it,I can't find a fault!! Excellent,it's so hard ,but Lost INside is up there at the top! Please head to Ireland,my son does tour promotions ,you can contact him at bnbpromotions.co.uk well done !!! xxx greetings and love from Northern Ireland
Excellent !
That's good music
author: Evgenia LoliIf you like Evanescence, you will love these guys too. A good group, deserves more attention.
Really great CD!
author: keesThis is another great release from Dutch band Nemesea! It's almost the opposite from their first album Mana. But I think this one's much better. The band seems more comfortable with this style of music. (more rock/pop/electro/ orientated metal instead of grunts and choirs from Mana). In Control is a great album if you like female voice in combination with some heavier music. (Not all the tracks are heavy btw). The vocal lines and riffs are amazingly catchy! There are some very good songs on "In Control" It's a bit on the short side but the quality is amazing. You won't be dissapointed!
Great Electro/Rock/Metal release.
I do not know what the Scandinavians and the Dutch put in their water, but there sure is a vast array of decent bands coming from that part of the world. NEMESEA appeared on the scene a couple of years or so ago with their debut opus MANA. This cd was a strong operatic gothic metal album, not too disimilar to Nightwish in places. In-fact, being a Nightwish fan, I enjoyed that cd very much. And then I heard about NEMESEA recording a new album. Obviously, I was interested in hearing the new material. Now, let's get something straight here. Anybody reading this review that is expecting and wants MANA mark two, I am afraid they are not going to get it. I am though bowled over by the new cd. I would call it electro rock/metal, with the odd touch of techno for good measure. I like all types of music, and I never get stuck in a rut. I myself love 'IN CONTROL'. OK, it is totally different to the debut, but the potential for the album is enormous, even over here in the UK, if it was pushed in the right directions. It is only 34 minutes long though, comprising 10 tracks, but I believe in quality not quantity, so I do not have a problem with that. Favourite tracks are a plenty, but I particularly like seventh track in, 'BELIEVE'. Any open minded person should check this album out. It is a strong release!
