Nefrit El-Or
Born in Israel, 25-year-old singer/songwriter Nefrit El-Or has been involved in the DC music scene since she came to the U.S. four years ago.
Growing up in a Kibbutz - where every day life was centered on the arts, nature, and music - helped shape her unique style. As a child, she took lessons on wind instruments, particularly the recorder, played the piano, and also frequently sang and acted in school productions. Influenced by her brother's musical talents, at the age of 11 she started playing the acoustic guitar, composing, writing, and singing her own original songs. In high school she was an art major and also took an interest in writing. She has written many short stories and is currently working on a novel.
After 3 years of playing out in clubs as a solo artist around the DC area, Nefrit has decided to team up with David Tyndale- drummer, and Matt Eiland- bass, and bring another dimension into her live shows and her music. It was exactly a year ago when the band formed, and since then it has been nothing but developing, taking a new shape. The three members are very much in love with the project, and are excited with the direction it is taking.
Nefrit was highlighted at the Artomatic 2000+2002 Art Festival, and performed at the Lincoln Theatre during the Washington Jewish Film Festival. Along with her band she also performed in places such as The 9:30 club, Iota Club and Café, The state Theatre The Vault, The Velvet Lounge, on WRNR Radio station- The Homegrown program, CecilFest 2002 and 2003, SoundQuilt Music fest, The Dewey Beach Millennium Conference 2002+ 2003. She was invited to play at the Nashville music conference of 2003. The song "Collider" was recently an Editor's Pick at the Washington Post MP3 website.
Currently, Nefrit, Matt and David are getting ready for the CD release show that is scheduled for Thursday January 29th at Iota club. They maintain a busy performance schedule around the DC metro area.
