If Syd Barret was in Queen, if Smiley Smile rather than Pepper had revolutionized music, if Ogden Nash had written lyrics for the Lovin' Spoonful, they wouldn't have made music that sounds very much like this.

notes

You haven't realized it yet, but you want cryptic lyrics, synth bass squelches and the ragged effervescence of musicians who are looking for a new musical recipe, rather than the perfect pastiche of their heroes. When you finally realize what you want, The National Pep is here for you.

Love Punks Want To Make You Cry is the band's second EP, and contains four tracks:

London After Midnight is a song that isn't actually about London. Features Tilt Araiza on gob-trumpet. Northern Jazz.

Degrees Of Freedom is a pop song about pop art and pop science. The incomparable Blake Jones guests on vocals. Rusting really removes electrons, but we sacrificed accuracy for euphony.

Illinois is about being a long way from home.

Jaded is an astonishing pop explosion. It's what happens if you try to record an entire album's worth of songs in three minutes thirty seconds. Baroque pop for those for whom the Ramones didn't get to the point quick enough, with saxophone, harpsichord, theremin, melodica and ukulele.
