notes

Naser was born in Kpatuo, Nimba County, Liberia. She is a songwriter and singer who presently resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.

As a young girl, Naser played hand drums for her mother, who sang to entertain the family. She played anything (from empty tin cans, plastic buckets to hollow woods or sticks) she could get her hands on.

Naser performs a style of music called Kolor, a rhythm filled sounds with upbeat mood, typical of the Dan and Man tribes of northeastern Liberia. Her specialty within the Kolor style is the sub genre called Sokay which generally addresses family cohesiveness.

Naser released her debut CD called "Sokay," in the United States in 1988. In 2000, she completed a joint project "Rally Time" with her husband, Jake D.

Jake D was born in Karnplay, Nimba County, Liberia. He presently resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. He is a song writer, singer, producer, and recording engineer who began his music career in early 1989 and has since then released and produced a few, but highly acclaimed CDs.

Jake D's style of music is called Korlor. By way of description, Korlor is an infectious and happy music that originated in Northeastern Liberia. The music incorporates relentless and catchy rhythms with an upbeat mood, symbolic of the Dan and Man tribes of that region.

Jake D also wrote for and performed with the Amandla and Out of Africa bands of Minneapolis, respectively, from the early to mid 1990s.

Jake D presently records for the independent label, Kinzo Music Works.

The first cut (African Lady) on this CD, Rally Time, is filled with memories of the early 1990s, and it's one of my favorites. The remake of African Lady is a blast and I love the insertion of those wonderful guitar licks. What stands out on this CD is the diversity of the arrangements, which makes it non-boring. I also love the idea of Jake and Naser doing some productions together. Great job! Keep it up!
