notes
They hear the cry of their ancestors, sharks, spirits, and respond with the haunting power and infectious rhythms of their unique bamboo instruments and high energy music and dance
The Narasirato Pan Pipers have astounded audiences worldwide, honouring their traditional Are’are’ customs, presenting with great pride their traditional music, costume and dance.
Playing their unique bamboo musical instruments such as thong-o-phones, pan pipes, stomping tubes, drums and percussion, mixed with soaring vocals and rich Solomon Island vocal harmonies, they lift audiences spirits.
These farmers and fisherman live amidst a virgin rainforest and idyllic at the end of a mangrove forest in Oterama Village, at the remote southern end of Malaita Island, in the Solomon Islands. Their village is only accessible by canoe or overland by foot.
Since forming in 1991 the group has toured to England, Taipai, Vanuatu, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. In 2005 they thrilled audiences as part of the Queensland Music Festival.
In March/April 2007 Narasirato completed an eight week tour of Australia where they were often referred to as ‘pick of the Festival’, receiving standing ovations at most of their performances. Their song My Culture Is My Life was at number one on the ABC radio Asia Pacific for over a month.
Most recently they have returned from rapturous response at the Penang World Music Festival in Malaysia and from Bahrain, in the United Arab Emirates.
