Biography
Growing up in the seaside town of Sidney, B.C., Canada, vocalist Nancy Ruth was influenced by the music of her grandfather, who introduced her to jazz at an early age. Family jam sessions ignited her passion, and after classical studies in voice, piano and theatre she began a performance career which has taken her to clubs, hotels, theatres and cruise ships around the world.
Always eager to travel and explore genres, Nancy has worked with jazz pianist Bob Albanese in New York, Panamanian composer Toño Robira, and in Spain, she embarked upon her study of flamenco with guitarist Julen Fernández. For one of her most unusual gigs to date, she took the opportunity to learn to sing in Malay and Indonesian while she was a featured guest artist in the Palace of the Sultan of Brunei.
Nancy's passion for the Spanish language has inspired much of her work, and she continues to compose songs in a unique style which encompasses her influences of flamenco, jazz, and the baladas and boleros of Latin America.
An avid songwriter, Nancy released her self- titled CD, Nancy Ruth, a critically acclaimed album of her own compositions in 1998. Returning to her love of the standard song, Nancy Ruth released her second CD, It's Got to Be Love in 2004.
