Slave: The Remixtape: Remix Artists Serve Up Lurid Spins on "Slave"
Some artists defy classification. Detroit’s revolutionary
soul man, Nadir, rebels against it.
His solo debut Distorted Soul 2.0 was crowned "Best Funk Album of the Year" by Soul-Patrol.com and earned a Detroit Music Award for "Outstanding Urban Funk/Hip-Hop Recording", after international spins on Urban A/C, Rock, Urban Contemporary and even Smooth Jazz radio. Witnesses can catch Nadir skanking funk guitar in Europe, or rocking an acoustic in front of the White House demanding that George Bush step down. His funk-rock jam band, Distorted Soul, burns
through Nadir’s varied originals then fires off hard rocking versions of "Love TKO" or Bobby Brown’s "Don’t Be Cruel".
The release of Slave: The Remixtape, which offers
fourteen very different versions of Nadir’s award-winning composition "Slave" (and five additional tracks online), is yet another arresting and unconventional surprise.
Slave: The Remixtape is not an album nor is it a mixtape. It’s a Remixtape, an album length collection of banging tracks that covers just about every genre of club and radio
fare - Crunk, Funk, Hip-hop, Rock, Funky House, Techno - it’s all there on Slave: The Remixtape.
What is it about this song that would compel accomplished remix artists from all over to place their own unique spin on the track? "Slave", a stand-out selection from Nadir’s
acclaimed Distorted Soul 2.0, has attracted attention and awards around the globe including a Finalist berth in the John Lennon International Songwriting Competition,
and the Grand Prize in a NARAS Grammy Contest in Detroit.
"We all feel like a slave to something or someone from time to time," Nadir remarks. "The song was written about being a slave to the pain of a bitter break-up, but everyone
who hears it finds their own interpretation. Several hot producers offered to mix up these eclectic versions that will help introduce 'Slave' to a wider audience, specifically for clubs and radio. Every DJ will find something that blends with his or her individual
style."
Executive Producer, Corbin Dooley, a dj and former major label marketing head agrees. "Each remixer we chose brought new revelations to the song, insuring that every version
of ‘Slave’ is unique, yet the vocal ties the productions together. We were fortunate to work with some of the rising young producers in dance music, hip-hop and pop, in hopes
of redefining this hit song for clubs and radio."
