notes
Marching under the unfurling burlap banner of the West Coast folk and renaissance music movement, The Merry Wives of Windsor are delighted to present our second CD, Here's to the Men. Founded in 2002, MWOW has amassed an impressive body of traditional and original folk music.
From their rollicking, hard-hitting, bawdy numbers to their soulful and melancholy ballads, these ladies have captivated audiences wherever they perform.
These ten vocalists sing in three- and four-part harmonies, accompanied by guitar, Irish bouzouki, mandolin, sackbut, recorder, fiddle and bodhran. They have developed a remarkably modern sound, yet still remain true to their inspirational roots in folk music.

Exponential Growth of an Already GREAT Ensemble!
author: Myra DanielI have had a chance to listen to this newest set of songs and I am truly enchanted by the lilting synestry these ladies have acheived. I've luckily had the honor of seeing the Merry Wives of Windsor repeatedly at faire(s) and bought a couple copies of their first CD 'Our Revels Now Begin' there. I truly loved that first album. Now, with even more time together in collaboration and in vocal ensemble growth, they have put out an album full of feminine mirth and strength. I am always amazed at the quality music smaller studios can produce nowadays, and the albums put out by MWOW and their brother group, The Poxy Boggards, are fine examples of such quality. These ladies continue to grow as an ensemble - I can truthfully say that this second album is a tribute to their lovely natures as humans. You can hear their personalities come out and blend perfectly, without losing individuality - especially in this newest production. Songs like Prickle Holly Bush and The Dear Irish Boy show this beautifully and are obviously gorgeous representations of what these ladies can do. But, let us not ignore such songs as The Devil and the Knight (a fabulous original by Venable and Greene) and Old Daddy Fox (a traditional with an arrangement treatment by Greene) - these are sharp and clear examples of the true talents of this group. They can blend originality with originals. Seamlessly. Unlike other contemporary folk groups, MWOW empowers their music with an emotional commitment to the words and music. Detachment is not in their vocabulary. What we hear in Stitch in Time is raw meaning through the humor of the story. With "just a few strokes", they manage to convey a serious subject with both a laugh and a warning. This is a "must-have" for any renaissance music collection. And if you ever get the chance - go see them live and catch the Boggards too! There's nothing like it! ***** - Easily Five Stars!

Love this disc and The Wives. Have nearly worn out my copy of their first albumn, "Our Revels Now Begin", and I'm well on my way to wearing out this one, too. Keep up the great work ladies!
Beautiful harmonies and awesome songs!
author: SorchaI have seen the MWoW at faire and needed to get the cd. Very wonder, I tell you. These women rock, in renaissance style. Keep up the good work.
A strong and charismatic blend of voices
author: uncas76This CD is filled with strong and charismatic voices that invite, seduce, and attack their way through beautfully produced Renaissance songs. These ladies can handle dramatic ballads (Prickle Holly Bush), playful upbeat tunes (Old Daddy Fox), and rollicking singalongs (Bog Down in the Valley-O) with harmonies as tight and arrangements as appealing as any put on disc. An excellent CD for fans of Renaissance music and vocal groups.
Fun and Pretty!
author: BrianThis CD is both beautiful and fun (like the ladies of MWOW themselves!). The words to the songs will have you laughing out loud and the music is great. Any Folk or Renaissance Music collection is naked without these girls.
WOW is right!
author: Michelle B.This is a great CD! I bought it at a show MWOW did and haven't been able to stop listening to it. The music is wonderful and the parts fit together seamlessly. Its nice to hear traditional songs redone so well and to hear new original pieces as well. I think what I am most impressed with is how good these girls sound live! They sound just as good as their CD during stage shows! Rock on ladies!
