notes

Marching under the unfurling burlap banner of the West Coast folk and renaissance music movement, The Merry Wives of Windsor have stunned and delighted listeners with their premiere CD, Our Revels Now Begin. Founded in 2002, MWOW has amassed an impressive body of traditional and original folk music.

From their rollicking, hard-hitting, bawdy numbers to their soulful and melancholy ballads, these ladies have captivated audiences wherever they perform.

These seven vocalists sing in three- and four-part harmonies, accompanied by guitar, Irish bouzouki, mandolin and bodhran. They have developed a remarkably modern sound, yet still remain true to their inspirational roots in folk music.

Fabulous harmonies. These ladies are really talented. Very fun CD, highly recomended.

  • Great First Album
    author: Sorcha

The harmonies, as others have said, are awesome. These ladies are great at what they do. My favorite is a toss up between Two Magicians and Scarborough Faire (with another fave artist, the Pox Boggards, supplying the male vocals). If in So California, check the girls out at Faire...the live show is great!

  • A must have of a Renaissance Fair Collection...
    author: Renaissance Fair Favorite

I would go on a lot more, yet time wise (something called "outside" beconds this fine afternoon) and typing space wise, I would have to keep it short. So, besides their other CD's this is one "must have" of a Renaissance Fair collection (or any other type of collection for that matter) which The Merry Wives of Windsor are singing all songs, with another Ren Faire group called "The Poxy Boggards" in some songs.

  • SOLID AND IMPRESSIVE
    author: Harmonizer

Some of the tightest harmonies I have ever heard. You will not regret this record. Polished and refined, but not over-produced.

  • Wonderful harmonies and witty lyrics abound!
    author: Laura

This CD is wonderful to hear! The melodies and harmonies are fantastic and beautifully sung and the lyrics are so clever that I laughed out loud when I first heard some of them! Be warned: 'tis a little bawdy but it's all good fun - the perfect CD for the drive out to a Renaissance Faire.

  • This is some of the best folk music I've ever heard. Is there another CD?
    author: Myra

This CD has the PERFECT mix of songs. The last track "How do I Love Thee" is a fantastic display of the vocal flexibility of the group! I love it, and I'm eagerly awaiting the next one...and the next...and the next!

  • Awesome!

Would highly recommend for anyone who loves faire!

  • Fantastic!
    author: Pam

I think the CD is great! The songs are fabulous and definitely make you feel like you are at a renaissance festival. For that festival feel in your home, this CD is for you!

  • Random web searching finally turns up something worthwhile.
    author: Malcolm Christiansen

Probably some of the finest Renaissance folk music from an all-female group I've ever heard. Granted, the long list of qualifications cuts down the competition, but still. Personal favorites: The Two Magicians, Twiddles, Gentleman Soldier, How Do I Love Thee, and Rose Red.

  • Absolutely Fantastic!
    author: Kelly Smith

The perfect bawdy, funny, fantastic CD. My husband loved it, too, and that's saying something. More!
