notes
"Hometown heroes Musical Outfits should feel very comfortable playing against the backdrop of Chicago's sky line at Lollapalooza. The four-piece has played almost every venue in the city. Thankfully, their power pop tunes are catchy without becoming saccharine copies of everything else played on the radio."
--Janine Shaults Chicago Innerview
Fun indie rock with breathy vocals that bounces from shoulder to shoulder and has potential to break your feet from its stationary place on the floor.
-- New City Chicago
"What a great CD"
-- Chris Payne – Q101
"It blows me away how such a young band can sound so mature, I listen to lots of music before I decide what to play on the air and I just love this bands sound."
-- Richard Milne - 93.1 WXRT
Indie rockers the Musical Outfits wear for almost any occasion, offering an assortment of wholesome, alt-rock tunes, soulful ballads and upbeat pop melodies. The group began when singer Adam Ashbach and guitarist Jimmy Giannopoulos first met in 1999 and since then, has evolved into a refreshing and mature four-piece rock act. Over the years they have developed a handsome resume of gigs; acting as the house band at Lillys, a popular club in Chicago's upscale Lincoln Park neighborhood, as well as the citys legendary Wise Fools Pub. In addition they have been featured at popular venues throughout the city such as Double Door, House of Blues, Metro, Schubas, Empty Bottle and Elbo Room. Their live performances are thrilling, and are known for being captivating and charismatic, appealing to a diverse audience. They released their debut album Left Here in March of 2005. Recorded at the famous Chicago Recording Company and mastered by Chris Athens at Sterling Sound in New York City; Left Here has received praise and critical acclaim from music lovers spanning the globe. They enjoyed winning prominent awards and recognition on GarageBand.com. The record features upbeat tracks like Routine of the Dancer and Redesign as well as soulful ballads such as Impossible Day and Bullets. The album is creating a big buzz in and around Chicago; popular radio stations like 93.1 WXRT, WLUW and Q101 are currently playing cuts off of the album. The sentiments of Left Here manage to resonate with everyone who listens.

author: Hostage RadioIn the midst of a generation consumed by artists who are more concerned with thievery and impressionism, The Musical Outfits created an album of novelty. With a vast concoction of influences such as Sam Roberts, Noel Gallagher (Oasis), and Mike McCready (Pearl Jam), The Musical Outfits debut album Left Here is emblematic to their name. Left Here begins with “Routine of The Dancer”, a song driven by heavy melodic guitar that was performed by guitarist Jimmy Giannopoulos. Giannopoulos remained the highlight of the album, because he enticed the listener with interesting guitar tones and he understood how to compliment Adam Ashbach’s strong vocal performance. The songs that stand out are True Blue, Picked You Out of A Crowd, Watching Time, and Impossible Day. A few tracks such as “All That You Are” or “Madison” just get repetitive with redundant lyrical references and cliché rhymes such as…“feeling so inspired, so baby I think I’ll start a fire”, but despite a few juvenile lyrics, the album redeems it creditability from the more emotionally influenced songs such as “Slow Down”. “Slow Down” is a beautifully composed song that demonstrates Ashbach’s prominent vocals and showcases Chris Steinmetz’s (Ben Harper, Madonna) notable producing. Ecky Eckersall and Mike Durband are the backbone of the band with steady tempo and proficient fills that accolade Giannopoulos and Ashbach’s freedom to showcase their talents. Left Here is a hell of an album that is well crafted with interesting melodies, originality and most of all musicianship.
