notes
Jonathan Munson is a 27 year old singer/songwriter based in Atlanta. He has the rare ability to combine beautifully written lyrics with intricate melodies. Though this is his debut cd, Munson has been writing songs since high school. "Songwriting has always been an integral part of my life. I have always enjoyed the challenge of writing a song that will inspire other people. It is a never-ending process. I spend countless hours with my guitar trying to hammer out a meaningful melody. "Small Beginnings" captures some of my best songs over the years."
A graduate of Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, Alabama, Munson does not try to hide his faith in Christ. On "Rejoice," he sings about the priority of worship in the life of faith. A beautiful acoustic number,"Playing House," echoes the words to the famous hymn, "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing." He sings, "come, thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to do Your will/praise the Maker of every good thing, for my feet are standing still/in the middle of life abundant.."
Yet, "Small Beginnings" is an album which is honest about life's various difficulties and struggles. "I started writing music right around the same time my parents were going through a divorce" says Munson. "So, in a lot of ways music has always been very therapeutic for me. If you take time to read the Psalms in Scripture, you will find a whole range of emotions. I consider myself a modern-day psalmist. I want to be honest about the pain I experience, but also profess the hope I have in God. Living by faith is not easy, but it is also never void of joy." His transparency is best heard on songs like "Then It Starts To Rain," "For All Time," and "Wilderness."
When all is said and done, "Small Beginnings" is a great debut cd from an emerging artist. It is a poignant, reflective album that challenges the listener to hold to their faith no matter what.

Amazing
author: Mary-Margaret SmithThis is an amazing CD, and I'm not just saying that because I am related to him. I have been waiting for this CD for so long. I am on my second copy. His talent is incredible. Each song can speak to moments in all our lives and leave you saying, yes, that's what I was thinking. He is truly talented. I look forward to the CD's and songs yet to come.
Wow! Amazing songwriting and musicianship
author: Jason DavisSongwriting is incredible. Jonathan has a gift. Buy it so you can hear his gift of songwriting. The musicianship is incredible! The acoustic guitar has a lot of great stuff, especially Track 10! The electric guitarist is one of the best guitarists I've ever heard. The drummer plays some very tasteful stuff on each song. BGV's are great also. Oh yeah, so did I mention this was a great album?
