Dunegrass is the stunning debut release from singer-songwriter-guitarist Erik Muiderman.
He captures the sensibilities of classic acoustic artists (such as Bruce Cockburn, Van Morrison, Nick Drake, Michael Hedges, Neil Young, James Taylor, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan etc.), while presenting fresh, original songwriting with an accomplished, mature guitar style.
This collection fuses elements of folk, rock, blues, bluegrass, jazz, and digital collage into an organic whole. Erik blends acoustic guitar and vocals with such diverse sounds as fretless bass, cello, djembe, udu drum, shakuhachi, harmonica, baritone sax, accordion and found sounds. Classic themes of love, travel, nature and mysticism are explored with gorgeous lyrics, a soulful tenor voice and thoroughly hip acoustic landscapes.
Dunegrass offers great sound quality from a seamless blend of old and new technologies. This CD was beautifully recorded by veteran producer John K Erskine using esoteric tube and ribbon microphones. Basic guitar and vocal tracks were recorded simultaneous and complete, then transferred to a digital workstation by studio ace Glenn Brown.
Live performances, studio recordings, overdubs and samples were subtly layered to create a sparse, electronic collage using all acoustically recorded elements. Bitchin' vintage analog outboard gear (Neve, API, Telefunkin, Pultec etc.) was used throughout the mixing process. Dunegrass was then mastered from 24-bit files and the JVC K2 glass mastering system was employed to ensure maximum warmth and clarity.
Dunegrass is not your average knock-off acoustic demo CD!
This is a fully produced, full-length product featuring great songs, vocals, guitar work, guest musicians and sonic quality. Order yours today!

Erik Muiderman BIO 2003
(By the way, it is pronounced My-der-man like Spiderman.)
Guitarist /singer/songwriter Erik Muiderman got his first guitar for Christmas at age 12 and caught some sort of musical virus rendering him incapable of putting the thing down. He soon became infected with a songwriting bug and spent endless hours with guitar and pen neglecting his homework. This native of the Grand Rapids/Holland area began performing professionally at age 17 and in 1989 co-founded the Folk Lizards with friend and bassist Charlie Hoats. The acoustic duo soon became one of the most in-demand bands around West Michigan playing 250+ nights a year and eventually expanded into an electrified quintet with drums, keyboards and saxophone. In 1993 the Folk Lizards opened for The Band at the State Theater in Kalamazoo.
A veteran of the stage, Erik has done 2000+ shows including solo gigs and dates with with Erik & Charlie, The Folk Lizards, The Stogies and The Erik, Bernie and Charlie Show. He worked for eight seasons with Hope Summer Repertory Theater as an actor, musician and one ill-fated stint as a tap dancer. Mr. Muiderman has studied guitar with Tuck Andress (Tuck and Patti), Vinnie Zummo (Joe Jackson Band) and apprenticed with legendary New York composers Arthur Russel and Elodie Lauten. In 1993 Erik received a B.A. in music, theater and creative writing from Hope College.
Now a solo artist residing in Eugene, Oregon, Erik combines elements of folk, rock, blues, bluegrass and jazz into a seamless blend that is his own. He is equally at home with finger style or flatpicking; acoustic or electric guitars. His smooth, warm tenor is reminiscent of Nick Drake, James Taylor and Van Morrison and highlights an intimate, lyrically rich songwriting style that appeals to listeners from diverse musical camps.
In 2001 Erik joined the mighty Tourbaby 2001, a group of talented CDbaby members who barnstormed clubs and coffeehouses along the West Coast Playing 26 shows in 30 days. He is currently the stage manager / sound tech for Luna, a small, very hip club in Eugene. Oregon (www.lunajazz.com). For the past 18 months he has held the "permanent opening act" slot at Luna playing an hour and a half set every Friday and Saturday night. If you are in the Eugene area, stop by and say howdy. Luna has featured many CDbaby artists. Music fans can hear him in the Eugene and Portland area the second week of September with fellow Tourbaby alumni and guitarist/singer/songwriter extrordinaire Garrin Benfield. See www.garrin.com for more details.
Erik has just started studying with Nashville fingerstyle legend Buster B. Jones so look for some new sounds and flavors in the coming months.

I have an old tape of the Folk Lizards which is on it's last legs. I'm so happy to find Erik again! He has carried my soul and body, through music, to places no one else has ever taken me. This CD is one you'll always carry with you and the songs will be in the 25 top played songs on your mp3 guaranteed. I am lucky enough to have a video of my wedding with Erik and Charlie playing as I walked down the aisle fourteen years ago.....most people don't watch their wedding video very much, but mine has the best vocalist of this time and the next several generations to come. Thanks for writing and sharing with us all Erik!

Erik Muiderman is at the head of the line to be one of the greats. His music and lyrics emanate from deep within, reaching out to touch your core. Never has any recording had such a profound effect on me. Encapsulating stunning personal visions while illuminating truths about our innermost selves, Erik Muiderman's tenacity, personal strength and outstanding character bless the guitar strings. "Dunegrass" is an auditory masterpiece that brings hope, melts fear and solidifies friendships. Muiderman will most certainly go down in history as one of the great artists of the 21st century with "Dunegrass" recognized as one of his finest works. It is aN honor to be able to hear Erik play. "Burning hands inside my chest, bowl of stars inside my head..." Oh yeah, Erik, I see how the pieces fit! BUY THIS DISC!!!
This man knows YOUR soul, too. Trust me.
author: Heather MettsThis album is stunning, heartbreaking, simple, sweet and lyrical... and it could not have paid better homage to the songwriter I first met at a wild party in Michigan in 1989. There was always something ethereal about Erik's voice, and his particular perspective, that spoke to me and to everyone else who has been awaiting this album since they first heard him sing. There will be more to come, fear not... he has a lot to say. Hey Erik, we are so psyched to tell people that we knew you all the way back then!!! (And yeah... I still want to hear St. Dominick's Preview, but now I like it best when you sing it).
outstanding
author: scott vandehoefThis is the CD that everyone who enjoys "Travels with Charlie", camping on a beach, smoking under the stars, and has an affinity for authentic, close to the heart, acoutstic music longs for.......do yourself a favor and get it today!!!!
Simply Amazing. On the Road on a CD.
author: David Hoffman"lord ain't the world a mess, but isn't life amazing" One of the best lines I've ever heard, from a true Dharma Bum, and an even truer musician. I couldn't tell you how many times I've listened to Dunegrass since it was released. I can't wait for the follow-up. I bummed, however, because my only copy of Dunegrass just got severly scrated by the sand on the beach. Hey, Erik, can you send me another copy?!! dwhoffman@getragusa.com
A pure replication of originality and electricitiy recorded by Erik Muiderman
author: Stubbs (thetruthxl@yahoo.com)Dunegrass implies flowing beauty and gentile sounds caputured in those special memories we have of the shore and Erik has fantastically trasposed those sensations onto his debut album. With allusions of love and youthful couriosity, Erik has painted his first masterpiece in what is hoped to be a long stand of organic music. Dunegrass is a choice selection for music lovers of all styles and could be taken note for note as well as background music for everyday activities.
One of my favorite albums
author: JbuonoThis is a favorite in my music collection. Luckily, Ive known about Eric's music for a few years so to finally have some of it on CD, with such good quality, makes this all the better. I like the produciton effects and style; this CD really captures, as well as possible, the sound of muscian that everyone who loves acoustic guitar should hear live. Get it and listen to it. Then catch Eric playing live....you'll be happy.
Insightful measures of life. Beuatiful work! Great lyrics and articulate guitar.
author: Lippi - Mp3.com/lippiTo me Dunegrass is a passage through time. It shows the inner workings of love, sorrow, soul-searching, and the bewilderment of life.It also shows us how to smile in the face of uncertainty from youth to old age. Muiderman is a songwriter we should keep an eye on for sure! Besides the articulate guitar work and lyrics many can identify with this CD just plays very well to the eclectic ear.
