notes
For the better part of this year, Mr. Saxophone has been writing and recording a new album for kids. He has worked hard to make music that the whole family could enjoy, even the parents!
The songs on his newest album “Songs from the Treehouse” represent a wide variety of styles, including some hilarious parodies (Welcome to the Jungle Gym, The Fizz is Gone), some classic remakes (Daydream, I Can Help), as well as original songs. You can learn how to make French Toast, hang around the house in your Sockfeet, or dance with your Great Big Grandma! The songs range from rock and roll, country, blues, swing, even a little beat poetry.
“I wanted to record an album that the kids would love of course, but also one the parents wouldn’t want to throw out the window after 2 or 3 listenings. There are a few jokes and references thrown in the mix just for the parents,” explains Dave Farver, aka Mr. Saxophone. “I wrote these songs thinking about my own childhood memories, and the things I used to enjoy doing when I was a kid.”
Recorded with a live studio band of seasoned professionals, the songs have a polished quality that will please the most jaded audiophile, as well as people who “just like good music”. Sample a few, we’re sure you’ll find something you like! It might even take you back to your own childhood...

Very fun! Definately one of my favorites. I bought this CD after seeing how much my kids enjoy Mr. Saxophones's regular solo shows at their preschool. His songs really motivate the kids, my 4 year old does a great "air saxophone" while listening. Many of the tunes are from my generation, but with lyrics for them, which makes it all the more fun for me. This album does a great job of closing the gap between their music and mine. Mr. Saxophone is definately the elementary "Elvis" in my household.

author: SheldonWhat can I say that haven't been said except a little cajun spices have been injected into soe classics and my children and I are finding ourselves dancing and groving to the sounds and the beat. I wish I had these funky sounds when my kids were babies.

cross-generational
author: MikeBacked by some of St. Louis's most-veteran musicians, Mr. Saxophone takes music for the eggs-'n'-hammy-in-my-jammies set waaay past bland Barney-tunes. (Oh, thank goodness!) With influences from Bo Diddly to B.B. King, most songs on the CD have a cool, cross-generational groove that should engage kids and adults as well. In the aggregate, they offer a nice little collection you could slip in the car's CD player on a family trip with the assurance that all the music will be free from the "shoot-me-now," fingernails-on-chalkboard annoyance of far too many saccharin-overdosing made-for-kids CDs. Some songs are reworks of familiar covers like "Daydream," "I Can Help," and "The Fizz is Gone," but they're served up with fresh-yet-respectful arrangements. I particularly liked "French Toast," a song about preparing and enjoying that ingenious culinary antidote to half-a-loaf of stale bread. So much of today's so-called "new music" has all the melodic and lyrical sophistication of a nursery rhyme. So maybe — just maybe — if you can get your kids' ears wrapped around "Songs from the Treehouse," they just might grow up to be adults who actually like adult music. "Songs from the Treehouse" would be a great start on the path to appreciating good music.

I hate to admit this.... but, honestly, when the the kids and I sing and dance around the living room listening to Songs from the Treehouse, I think I am the one having the most fun.

author: Doug PowellThis CD holds up for Kids as well as adults. I have found myself lisening to with out any children around. Super entertaining and very good production. I will be giving it for all of the childrens birthday parties in the future. The parents will be very happy it isn't another super annoying childens CD.

author: ChristineNOT just for kids! The songs made me feel good and even made me giggle. Also, a great way for kids to become familiar with some classic rock. Even my teenager loved it. It's a definate gift for all my nieces and nephews this year for birthdays so I can maintain my "favorite Aunt" status.
