Hard driving Rhythm & Blues and killer boogie woogies by the fastest and flashiest piano-thumping boogie man from the Netherlands. The album title is more accurate than you can imagine.

notes

Eric-Jan Overbeek (Mr.Boogie Woogie) had his first piano lessons at the age of eight and began his musical career playing piano in church. At fourteen, he heard Fats Domino play the Swanee River Hop and it became clear that he wanted to be a boogie-woogie man. Soon he discovered dutch boogie players like André Valkering and the legendary Rob Hoeke, who became a good friend untill he passed away in 1999. Of course he listened to Albert Ammons, Meade "Lux" Lewis and Pete Johnson (the three "kings of boogie-woogie") but being invited on stage by Hoeke and Valkering influenced his playing even more. Other influences include Dr.John, Ray Charles and unexpectedly guitarists B.B.King and the master of the Telecaster: Albert Collins. Eric-Jan has always been stunned by so much power in blues. Since 1990 he fronts his own band MR.BOOGIE WOOGIE & THE FIRESWEEP BLUESBAND, a rhythm and blues band with as "specialité de la maison": boogie-woogie!

A show by Mr.Boogie Woogie is a sensational event. His remarkable, his energy and enthousiasm, it sets the place on fire.

It only takes about 30 seconds of listening to the boogie-woogie man's CD "Three Pound Fist" to know this guy belongs in America's most energetic roadhouses seven nights a week."- Arizona Daily Star.

Overbeek's piano techniques can be described as "nothing short of overwhelming."- The Glendale Star.

  • YOU ARE NOT CRAZY IF YOU LOVE THIS ALBUM

This album comes on like a freight train and never lets up. Even my cranky wife likes it! BUT, I thought I was crazy to be listening to - and worse yet enjoying - American piano blues from the Netherlands. I have now worked through my neurosis thanks to expensive professional help. I am NOT CRAZY! YOU and not crazy either. Our lives are better because of this album. Just give me more Mr. Boogie Woogie!

Great music start to finish! I just returned on a automobile trip from Youngstown Ohio to Syracuse NY and I played the CD many times along the way. It made the trip bearable.

  • Fantastic piano playing!

I discovered the magnificent talent of Mr. Boogie Woogie when I googled a lot of piano blues and saw his name connected with Lisa Otey whom I remembered from the great Pinetop Perkins CD Ladies Man. This album is a blast from start to finish, it is without doubt the most dynamic contemporary boogie and blues piano record I have heard in a very long time, it is highly versatile with a great soul feeling too (check out the smooth versions of two Ray Charles classics), the production is top notch - buy this - its a killer!

Wonderful fun. This is a CD that never disappoints. As always, Mr. Boogie Woogie is truly amazing on the piano and vocals with an album of solid, fun songs.

Mr.Boogie Woogie, nee Eric-Jan Overbeek is a gritty, hard driving piano player and singer. It's difficult to assess his age from the record jacket but suffice it to say that he plays and sings much older, which, in this musical genre, is a compliment of the highest order. This wonderful record mixes several horn-driven originals, many penned by bassist Harm van Sleen, with strong covers of chestnuts like Ray Charles' "That's a lie" and "Mary Ann". Percy Mayfield's "Please send me someone to love" and a stunning piano based instrumental run through of Freddy King's "Remington Ride". In this band's hands, the covers are not simply "by the numbers" recitations but are interesting interpretations that actually add something to the original standards, which is a daunting task that only the best bands and musicians can accomplish. If they sound half as good live as they do on this release, R&B fans will have even more to cheer about.

Mr.Woogie comes straight from the Jerry Lee Lewis school of high-pressure playing. Except Mr.Woogie is lots faster. Add the hand-speed of Muhammad Ali to the forceful personality of The Killer and you've pretty much got the Boogie-meister.
