notes
Motown Moe is a Detroit area keyboard player who has come on the music scene with a smooth jazz sound, that blends together elements of jazz, trip hop, rnb, and new age, the sound is described by Moe as hip soft. Motown Moe counts the following musicians as heavily influencing his sound Jam & Lewis, Jeff Lorber, Bob James, Gamble & Huff, Bell & Creed, Dancing Fantasy, anything to do with Philly & Motown. Motown Moe’s first solo project “Blu For U” was released in June 2008 and can be purchased and previewed at http://cdbaby.com/cd/motownmoe and it’s also available on iTunes and Amazon music. Please check out the following review of “Blu For U” by Sandy Shore of Smooth.Jazz.Com:
Motown Moe delivers a sophisticated sonic landscape on BLU FOR U. Inspired by all things soulful including 1960’s and 1970’s Motown as well as the Philly sound, plus Smooth Jazz, New Age and Fusion from artists like the Rippingtons, Dancing Fantasy and Jeff Lorber. Motown Moe spent much of his youth growing up in Detroit becoming a musical sponge during the Motown revolution and during the time of highly experimental jazz that came to be called Fusion. He absorbed everything he could get his ears on… the Jazz Crusaders, Tom Scott and the L.A. Express, Bob James, Grover… all of it. Now retired from the U.S. Air Force, Motown Moe has created a home studio where he is fulfilling his life’s calling… creating a stirring ambience through instrumental music. BLU FOR U features 15 tracks as well as special guest London saxophonist, Martin Sharpe who plays seductively on several songs on this debut release. Referring to his sound as “hip-soft,” BLU FOR U is a soulful, chillout jazz soundtrack perfect for midnight encounters, long drives and weekends away. Currently in the studio recording METRO DREAMS, Motown Moe is making his mark in the world of Global music through a blend of old and nu! ~SANDY SHORE.
