notes
Andrew was born on the 28th of February 1973 in the New Zealand farming town of Ashburton. By the age of sixteen he had started songwriting with guitar and eventually also on piano. Choosing to follow a carer path in music Andrew attended the Nelson School of Music's Contemporary Music Performance Course which he graduated with Outstanding Merit.
Andrew's music has been described as "Folk music with an edge." With influences such as John Michael Talbot, Ian White and Mark Knopfler, it isn't hard to see how Andrew's music has evolved to this point, with searching words delivered with an emotion filled voice and melodic lead guitar interwoven with acoustic fingerpicking.
"I wanted to create a CD where the arrangements were simple and uncluttered, something that was true to the way I play, not only in a live situation, but also at two in the morning when it's just an acoustic guitar and me. I wanted there to be space to give the songs room to breath, because sometimes the notes that aren't played are as important as the notes that are. It's this simplicity and this room to breath that gives the music the ability to connect with the listener in a more direct way." Andrew.

...Andrew's CD has just the music you need.
author: Beaky At The Lord's MusicIf you are a music lover, and you've had a hard day at work or school and just need to listen to something to help you relax, then Andrew's CD has just the music you need. Coming from a family of musicians, music has always been a part of Andrew's life. He started out by playing the flute, and by age 14 he picked up the guitar. By 16 he began playing the piano as well as writing his own music. Andrew's music is soft and soothing, weaving guitar and piano with his equally soothing voice. He sings about faith and life. The album starts off with the song, Morning Comes. A beautiful song that gives glory to God, the lyrics state that we would be destroyed if it wasn't for Him. The title track, Just Believe, is another soothing song that speaks of the writer knowing that there is nothing he can do to repay God. He knows there's nothing that he deserves from God, so he'll just believe. It's a longing to do something for God, yet knowing there is nothing he can do except to believe. Out From the Tomb is a song that comes straight out of the bible. It is the story of Christ and his resurrection. The end of the song challenges the listener to "choose this day who you'll serve/" Using verses straight out of the bible, this song is full of scriptural truths. The whole CD is filled with scriptural truths, straight from the bible itself. If you are in the mood for some soothing music, while wanting to be fed spiritually, then this is definitely the CD for you. If you're looking for a CD with a meditative quality, have been going through a
author: DayStar MagazineJust Believe by Andrew Morriss This is Andrew Morriss’s debut album, and is in a style that has been called ‘folk music with an edge.’ Mostly it's just Andrew and a melodic lead guitar, interwoven with acoustic finger picking. I did hear on some tracks some lovely legato cello work, but couldn’t find any mention of it in the credits. The songs were written over several years, up to and during a lengthy illness and the lyrics reflect this. For example in the opening track Morning Comes: "My enemies would have victory If it wasn’t for the Lord….But you came down….And now I am free." Many of the songs are based on well-known Scripture passages such as As the Deer Pants, and By the Rivers of Babylon. All of the tracks affirm our dependence on God’s love and mercy, and demonstrate Andrew’s love for the Lord and his gratitude for God's faithfulness through the times of difficulty. Andrew has a warm resonant baritone voice which is easy to listen to and most tracks are gently reflective with a touch of melancholy. As Andrew says, "It has not been my intention to create an overly religious CD, but instead I’ve wanted to offer a collection of songs that highlight the simplicity of belief in God and also express that belief in songs about harder times." If you're looking for a CD with a meditative quality, have been going through a time of turmoil, or simply want some easy listening, this CD would be a useful addition to your collection. --Reviewed by Fay McNeil
