notes

Monte Moir is a singer/songwriter, producer and one of the original members of the innovative R&B group The Time. The group is best known for it's hits "The Bird" and Jungle Love" from the Prince movie "Purple Rain". They have also recently appeared in the movie "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back."

As a songwriter and producer, he has had a number of hits including Janet Jackson's, "The Pleasure Principle" (from her grammy nominated CD) and Alexander O'Neal's, "If You Were Here Tonight."

"This Side Of Paradise" is a mature debut replete with all the trappings that have made Monte Moir a well-known name-at least in music industry circles. Lush melodies and syncopated arrangements call to mind such artists as Michael McDonald, Paul Simon and Boz Scaggs, but Moir's debut as a vocalist makes each track shimmer with individuality and heartfelt emotion. He is now also making plans for his first shows as a solo artist.

  • Phat Laid-back vibe!
    author: Darrell "D-Funk" Looney

This is the source cat for the smooth vibe we all heard growing up and listening to music by the "Time". It's mature music with a strongly creative edge that could easily cross genres. Give us MORE Monte!

  • "Paradise" Indeed!
    author: Brooke Aldridge

A surprising departure from the rave-up boy's club maneuvers of THE TIME (God bless the "Fellas"!), singer-songwriter Moir unabashedly bares his soul and defies all preconceived notions with his solo debut, 'This Side Of Paradise'. Lush pianos, intimate lyrics and delicious whispered vocals have sold me. The acoustic as well as vocal back ups of Curt Jones (the charismatic male voice of R & B chart topping acts Slave & Deja) and Marcia Day perfectly frame Moir's songwriting style. The percussive touch of Estaire Godinez on 'Save Your Love' and 'On Your Way Home' feels like looking at the delicate innuendo of American painter Georgia O'Keefe. A must listen! Recommended tracks: #2 (World Is Turning), #3 (On Your Way Home), #6 (Save Your Love for Me) & #10 (This Side Of Paradise). Brooke Aldridge -Pulse

  • Very refreshing to listen to. Great for background or sing-a-long.
    author: Deni Carruth

Everytime I listen to this CD, I love it more. Monte is brilliant. I love the music, the vocals and the variety of the songs. The words hold so much meaning...in many ways. I can play this CD as background when my clients exercise, or in the car when I'm driving around. The variety allows me to walk down memory lane and smile, or laugh and be crazy. It's definately a must have for always. It will never be dated.

  • Impressive!!!!!

MONTE MOIR THIS SIDE OF PARADISE Monte Moir is a songwriter, singer, producer and one of the original members of the R & B group, THE TIME. Monte started in college as a keyboardist and singer in a band called Flyte Tyme. He toured with The Time in the early 80s, eventually going out on his own as a songwriter and producer, working with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis of Flyte Tyme Productions. Monte has written and produced many songs for various artists, including Janet Jackson and Gladys Knight, and recently completed his first solo CD whose title is "This Side Of Paradise." The CD and its sleeve are very well presented. If you want to see the CD cover, look at the picture at the beginning of my review. The CD by itself is very good and I liked it after a few moments of listening. He has a warm and nice voice, and he is a very good musician. Moir is very talented, because much of the record was recorded with Monte playing not only keyboards, but also a lot more music instruments like : , guitar, bass and accordion. The music style on this solo CD is very different than The Time's signature sound ". It is a very good relaxing CD with much more ballads and romantic songs. The tunes are very well-crafted with great production quality You will find many good musicians on this CD like Curtis Jones from Aurra and Deja fame ( background vocals: Save your love. World is turning. Silence of my heart. All right by me. ON your way home. ) Marcia Day ( background vocals: On your way home) Curtis Jones ( acoustic guitar: Save your love ) Estaire Godinez ( percussion: Save your love .On your way home ) I knew Monte as a member of The Time" but not as a solo singer. I was pleased to discover that other face of this talented musician. I never thought he had such a nice voice because before with the Time he was more keyboardist and a background vocalist. We could not then appreciate the quality of his voice. I received a press kit and everything is made of a very good quality( CD cover, biography, picture and poster). Like most of his song titles, Monte puts all his heart in the creation of this album. He wants us to feel and appreciate this album. We feel that this musician is at peace with himself . It is soft to the ear, and very relaxing to listen to. I had the chance to meet him backstage after a show . Monte Moir is very nice, sympathetic and very generous of his time. He is also available for his public. The CD lasts 46 m. and 40 sec .Divided on ten (10) songs. 1st song: I'm The One Who Loves You 4m.01s 2nd song: World Is Turning 4m.23s 3rd song: On Your Way Home 4m.56s 4th song: For Want and Desire 5m.20s 5th song: Silence of My Heart 6m.04s 6th song: Save Your Love for Me 5m.14s 7th song: One of These Days 3m.31s 8th song: All Right by me 4m.05s 9th song: Everyday Living 5m.15s 10th song: This Side of Paradise 3m.46s Written, produced & mixed by Monte Moir 2001 Lagoon, Inc 3432 Denmark Avenue # 238 Eagan, Minnesota 55123 Distributed by Lagoon, Inc Monte’s CD is now available at: www.MONTEMOIR.com But with the release of This Side of Paradise, he is now making plans for his first shows as a solo artist as well. P/S : I do not want to forget to say thank you very much to you Monte Moir, who allowed me to meet you and the TIME " at the Foxwoods Casino Resort, at the B.B. King Dance Club on Saturday, February the 9th, 2002. After the show, Monte Moire said to Joe Kelley and GI Dussault and Myself: "I shall see what I can do for you and arrange a meeting backstage with all the members of the group ". He came back not long after and says to us: "Follow me! " We move behind the scene, and I see all the members of the group in front of me a few steps away. I ask Monte: "Can I have an autograph and take photographs with you all?" This fellow has done everything he could to carry out my dream of being with all the members of group. I was in paradise. I couldn’t believe it. I was there, with my idols, shaking hands and taking photographs of them. I preciously keep these photographs like my memories in my album as well as in my heart and my mind too. Thanks Mr. Monte Moir. You do a great job on this CD. • Refreshingly Nostalgic Grown Folks Music
    author: Bernard

Monte Moir has produced a wonderful cd, that easily transcends the most today's banal music. Being a big fan of The Time, I found This Side of paradise quite soothing and thank God without gimmicks. If you ever wanted to know what music was like without gimmicks than give the cd a listen and support a really down to earth and nice guy.

  • This ain't yo daddy's Time album!
author: Ernest L Sewell, Iv @ The Ernest Experience Radio Show

Monte Moir was a founding member of The Time whose hits have included "The Walk", "Cool", "Jungle Love", "777-9311", "Jerk Out" and "The Bird". But Monte's first solo CD is far from the funk of The Time. Without sticking Moir to "sounds like" statements, I will say that if you like singers like James Taylor or Jim Croce, you'll love "This Side of Paradise". The songs are gentle, but far from boring. His hooks are catchy, and you find yourself singing the tunes when the CD is over. There are some smooth ballads, as well as great mid-tempo tunes. This CD is perfect for a Sunday afternoon, or just an evening home w/ the one you love. Check out tracks like "On My Way Home", "For Want And Desire", "All Right By Me" and the title track. The package as a whole works well. The songs flow perfectly from one to the next. Moir's craft of song writing is not only evident on this freshman solo project, but is also in need of the question "Why not sooner?" His talents as keyboard player for The Time were shown in some regards, but after hearing this CD, you realize they've also been hidden. When it comes to that of being a piano player and songwriter, you realize Moir is in his prime on this album. The Time continues to tour, but a great contrast to the machismo of that, is the warmth of this CD. If you don't have it now, GET IT! ...Keep up the good work Monte!
