notes
Singer/vocalist and lyricist Mo Millar was born under the smoke of Amsterdam in the cacaphony of sound of a music & broadcast family. She describes herself professionally as a "latecomer" - despite solid credentials and background in music - due to a double life she's lead for a long time with a career in journalism she gave up to fully dedicate herself to what she feels is her true calling. Mo entered this new era in her life when meeting Italo Peruvian drummer, composer/producer and sound engineer Luca Solari in 1998. Solari sees and hears what Mo will finally understand herself later on about her talent and calling against her many services to others. He introduces her to American top singer Jennifer Weatherly and Band (an incredible source of warmth and wisdom for Mo) with bluegrass fiddle virtuoso Willy Wainwright and a certain Nicolas Wetzell on guitar; the latter, composer and songwriter, will become her guitar man for her first solo project "Goin' Basic".
It's the first time that Mo allows herself to work on what truly lives inside herself. "I have always flourished late with many things in my life." Since she lined up with guitar man Nicolas Wetzell to kick off the "Goin' Basic" project, Mo's universe has broadened significantly. It allowed her to fully connect with her inner self, discover different vocal use and a much more intimate approach. "Before, I have been overlooking quite a lot about me. I was busy living up to other's expectations, which drifted me away from myself. I felt it was time to 'go basic', which dear friends had been telling me all along when saying I had to do 'my own thing'. They were so right! I have now started to combine my passion for the written word with my love for music. It releases an amazing energy, which is a great experience." Mo finished writing own material for a 2nd solo CD and will collaborate with some 'notorious men'.
TAzik.org, the web site of the French Association for Independent Artists, attributes special attention to Mo Millar with the following CD review (in French): "'Millar Mo'town' revisits, unplugged and in a mellow blues-soul mood, the 60-70s and 90s with unfaltered vocal quality (mezzo-vibrato). We've got spicy feelings for "Voodoo Music"; the Montreux Jazz Festival isn't far away. Very good stuff. When will her own work be out there?...."

Chapeau!
author: MaryIt takes quite some courage to choose a side path in music in order to explore something entirely new: Mo Millar did and kept way too silent about it (I only found out recently). I know this singer from a couple of years back, when touring the bands-circuit or working in service of other artists: she's always been an incredible vocalist and an amazing stage personality, but this CD reveals a completely new side of her. Mo's general approach and singing have deepened considerably: the simplicity and beauty of the songs on this CD are striking...and real! No studio tricks, nor coating or polishing... where it al comes down to is love and honour for the fundamentals of music! Chapeau, Mo!!
What a voice!
author: Henri Levy-NoiretWow, what a voice this lady was given! And how deliciously authentic is the sound of these recordings... Wishing her all the luck she'd need in this schizo bizz. Go for it!

author: Onno PetersenCongratulations Mo! I love it!
Nice
author: H.SpadacciniIt’s hard to be on equal terms with The Beatles or with Crosby, Stills and Nash, but Mo Millar comes close. Actually, she’s adding a sensitive touch to “In my Live” with her smooth and vulnerable voice, that gives me the creeps! In “Voodoo Music” we can hear her mysterious smile. Just close your eyes and Mo’s voice trasmits the right emotion. She’s enjoying singing and therefor makes me enjoy listening! Nice.
Heavenly (as Seal would say)

Mo's vocal clarity, pitch and warmth truly seduced me. The generosity in her vocal expression matches wonderfully with the subtle, sensitive and efficient performance of her guitarist. Result: music of high quality, very pleasant to the ear. This recording definitely has to make its way. BRAVO!!! Keep it up! Patricia Tondreau (singer and composer)
