Original classical piano music for the piano performed by New York concert pianist Ivy Zohra Adrian. Passionate, technically masterful, and with hauntingly beautiful melodies.

notes

Maria Maldjian-Navarro, pianist and composer, began studying classical piano at the age of six. Her instructors included Dr. Chester Fanning Smith, a pedagogical descendant of Beethoven; Zenaida Manfugas, protégé of Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona; and Lilia Kazansky, formerly of the Moscow Conservatory of Music. An avid composer since the age of ten, she furthered her formal study of composition at the University of Pennsylvania where she studied under the instruction of Pulitzer Prize winning composers. Her music, while reminiscent of the Romantics, has a unique sound which evokes the exotic sounds of her Mediterranean heritage. The music on this CD was debuted at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in June, 2004 and was received with three standing ovations.

This CD features Ivy Zohra Adrian, pianist, performing Ms. Navarro's original work.

Ivy Zohra Adrian, a rising young pianist who resides in New York City, received her B.A. in Music from Columbia University and her M.A. in piano performance from the Aaron Copland School of Music in New York. Ms. Adrian has concertized as a soloist and as a chamber musician in the United States and abroad, including a tour of Poland in 1997 through the auspices of the European Mozart Academy. She has won numerous awards in piano performance including the Young Artists Competition sponsored by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in New York in 1987, 1988, and 1989 and the Aaron Copland School of Music Graduating Master's Award.
Ms. Adrian makes music come to life in prismatic color through a control of dynamics which leaves the listener breathless. She released her debut CD, Ivy Works, in 2002. Her performance of Ms. Navarro's compositions at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall was received with an overwhelming standing ovation, attesting to her impeccable and moving performance.
