notes

I am Marshall McLean. I am 21 years old and am married to my wife Nina since August, 2005. I met Nina in Italy when we were both 16. We have a son named Charlie who was born on August 7th of 2007. I am a working artist and songwriter based out of Spokane, Washington North of town somewhere in the woods. I'm inspired to be a songwriter by the power of words, the mystery of the music and the beauty of both when happening together.

I’m very interested in the following things: books that bring change, The Sermon on the Mount, loving my enemies, C.S. Lewis, my friends Matt Watts, David August, Matt Schvanevet, and Steven Gnam, Levi Hicks, investing in the poor, my cat Mia B. and her kittens, my family, Gibson Guitars, Taylor Guitars, fine wines and coffees, cheese, meeting new people, stimulating conversation, revolution, grace, pain, joy, sacrifice, hunger, birth, death, the month of October, travel, peace, practicing the words of Christ, the sound of A minor, thunderstorms, the smell of rain, pondering destiny and free will, taking walks, collecting Fiesta Ware, laughing, my dad's fishing trips, having time to reflect and to dream.

My favorite quote right now is “when you cannot do the good that you would, do the good that you can” -Matthew Henry

Marshall McLean has put out two albums. The Pilgrim Sessions (2004) which is an organic project recorded with Marshall and his guitar only. His latest work, Heaven’s Grey (2006) is a full band recording featuring songs like “The End of Me” and “Vanity.” Both projects draw strongly from personal reflection and are available online and at Marshall’s performances.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He is the Winner of the 2006 Gibson New Musician Award presented at Hatchfest in Bozeman, Montana where he preformed the song “The Ordinary Things.” He was later featured on Gibson’s website.

Marshall is a frequent performer and speaker at many venues across the Northwest including churches, coffee houses, and high schools. Marshall travels with his wife Nina promoting his albums and sharing his music and words with people.
