notes

Mitchelle (pronounced like the boy's name, Mitchell) Tanner is a San Francisco Bay Area-based singer-songwriter. Dawn of the Night Flyers showcases 11 original tunes - with breathtaking cover artistry by James Steidl. Many kind souls participated in the creation of the final product ~ all are thanked in the liner notes, including multi-instrumentalist Kevin Harris who arranged, produced and helped bring to life many of the songs in the collection.

"Diverse, emotional, sultry and smooth are just a few words that could be used to describe Mitchelle Tanner.
"In an Indie world overflowing with talented female singer songwriters, Mitchelle stands a full head above the crowd. Her songwriting is not only fresh and creative, it has a nice sharp edge that only adds to its appeal.
"The emotional levels expressed in her vocals are at once satin smooth and instictively raw - she knows just where to place the emotional emphasis in her tunes to give the most impact.
"This album is well produced, the content is creative and full of originality, and her performance and that of the accompanying artists is all pro. This is an artist I will be keeping an eye on."
- Bobby Bensley, CMAP Music International

  • Pure artistry; this is song-writing and performing talent at its best - a must h

I grew up on music from the 60's, 70's and 80's. Dawn of the Night Flyers is reminiscent of the genre of music I love; lyrical, melodic, poetic and superbly performed by Mitchelle Tanner. It's hard to find talent like this today, but I love this CD, and you will too. I strongly recommend this CD!

  • A beautifull album, I just play it all the time

I found this lovely album through contacts to my own site and "CD baby" and so glad that I did. I rate this work highly and would willingly advertise the fact. this girl is the real thing in my book.

  • Great stuff

Fellow musician John of Philadelphia's The BootLICKERS here. We just returned from the Nashville New Music Conference and I had the good fortune of being in a listening session where Mitchelle's 'I Feel a Fire' was chosen for critique. After they played the song clip, you could hear a pin drop in the room full of 60 or so musical peers and industry folk. I think everyone had to take a moment to recover from the beautiful production, vivid lyrics and raw sexual energy that Mitchelle's voice exuded - wow! A truly amazing moment - great stuff.

  • Incredibly refreshing music for all generations!
    author: Bob O'brien

This is one of the most enjoyable CDs I’ve listened to in a long time. The lyrics and music are pleasantly blended with Mitchelle’s powerful, yet crystal clear voice. Her instrumental version of I feel a fire adds a nice touch as the closing piece of music on the CD. Music connoisseurs will enjoy Dawn of the Night Flyers. What a great first CD for this young and talented artist!

  • Simply enthalling and captivating music from this brilliant singer/songwriter.

With a voice that is both strong and sensitive all at once, coupled with simply elegant, beautiful guitar playing, Mitchelle Tanner is name more than worthy of note. Her songs are simplicity itself, utterly captivating, completely refreshing. No more needs to be said.

  • A superb debut!
    author: Performing Songwriter Magazine

A veteran of the San Francisco area singer-songwriter circuit, Mitchelle Tanner decided nearly two years ago to undertake the recording of her debut CD. With the help of several generous financial supporters (whose names are listed in the liner notes), Tanner has come up with a collection of adult-contemporary pop songs presented in deftly- crafted, sometimes lush, arrangements. Centered on Tanner’s fine acoustic guitar work and expressive, slightly tremulous voice, Dawn of the Night Flyers zigzags gracefully between girl-with-guitar balladry, full-on folk rockers, and light pop ditties. Getting assistance from several empathetic backing players (most notably, multi-instrumentalist and co-producer Kevin Harris), Tanner employs subtle touches of violin, electric guitar, brushed percussion, and nuanced drum programming to create a song cycle that uplifts the spirit at every turn. Indeed, when Tanner sings on “Queen of the Land” that she has “made a castle from a bed of sand,” she’s in effect cheering herself with a theme that runs throughout this superb debut.
