When asked to describe her music, vocalist DM simply says, "Painful, yet not unpleasant. At least for me." A strange answer? Maybe. But somehow an accurate one for a band that refuses to be defined by any normal means.

the missing: has spent several years continually evolving, growing and morphing both members and sound. What officially began as a guitar-oriented goth band (somewhere between The Smiths and early punky Siouxsie) has made its way through an industrial incarnation and an all-out metal band.

Its current metamorphosis, completed in early 2004, finds the missing: with a darker, passionate, gothic/metal sound. Fresh with new members and new energies, the missing:, after putting the finishing touches on a brand new recording, has once again begun to scratch and claw its way to the top of the New York underground scene.

So what is a missing: show like, anyway? Why not ask a missing: fan...

"Powerful, metal-edged guitars often meld with synthesized beats while DM half-sings, half-growls melodies that often sound as if they're being ripped from her throat rather than flowing from it. Each song churns with raucous fury, intensifying until suddenly there is no sound save for a lone, mournful voice crooning and swaying to a melodic, hypnotic beat. The other members return, building a wall of sound whose throbbing actually begins to hurt, not from volume but from sheer intensity and emotion, until it collapses in on itself and leaves the band (and the listener) sweaty and exhausted.

    This band has such a powerful, strangely unique sound that throws itself both at the top of it's genre and yet far enought away to be something entirely of its own at the same time. All of the songs on this album carry through with such unyeilding strength that is hard to imagine someone not liking them instantly if they honestly listen to the darker side of metal. I am waiting for the missing: to put out more. Bring us more! Treat us all to your deathly delights!

    I first heard The Missing: on a Foamy cartoon and just fell in love. I bought this CD in the same day and wasn't disappointed. This is a must buy for all the gothic/industrial/metal fans!

    This is what all gothic/industrial music should sound like. The CD by the missing is very infectious and makes you wanting more of the same. This band is well worth seeing live and if you can't do that then pick up this CD you will not be disappointed.The cover of Scarecrow will blow you away.When they release their next work of art I will be adding it to my music. All I can say is thanks to the missing and lets hear more.

    I first stumbled across them on the old mp3.com about six years ago, and bought the cd they had then. This new release has the reworked "scary kitty," which is as good as ever, but with added feedback and new vocals. Good band, surprised they aren't signed to a major label. Beats evanescence & kittie, 2 mainstream female vox bands.

    I greatly enjoyed the CD. I first heard a snippit of vocals thanks to the good friends from illwillpress.com. It's a refreshing sound to hear a woman take such a good lead. I find the music to be compiled well, the material is different with each song. However, I noticed quickly that the CD itself, seemed more of an LP, rather than the dozen or so tracks you would find on any main label artist. This makes the the CD as a whole seem to more quickly lose it's replay value. At least, more quickly than most CD's. I'm sure that for many reasons, this was the best they could do for their first time, and it should be noted that it was done in my opinion as a great success. I'm gracious enough that they made something I was able to purchase and listen to. However, the length not withstanding, I find the CD overall to be excellent. I would highly recomend this to any fan of gothic metal. I also anxiously await the arrival of any new work and CD's they may create in the future.

    I LOVED this CD. I'm glad that Jonathan Ian Mathers chose to include The Missing's music in his "Neurotically Yours" episodes. Otherwise,I'd have never found this gem. The music is hard and dark. The guitars are all that metal should be. It was also a nice bonus that the CD had picture and video footage of the badn. That DM.....man she's hot! She is a "scary kitty" if I do say so myself. But that's okay....I like to be scared! ^..^___S

    After hearing about them in a Foamy cartoon, all hail the lord and master, I decided to check them out and immediately fell in love. Songs like 'belief' are full of solemness and pain with haunting vocals. Then you have something like 'Scary Kittie' which is just damn fun to rock-out to. All full of rage and anger, yet it's not overdone or meaningless. their most angry one is 'broken', with a growling chorus. oh what the hell... EEEEKK! they all rock! if you love something dark and powerful, you'll love 'the missing:'.

    I first learned about this band from the website illwillpress.com. I was so intrigued with the one song Scary Kitty from the cartoon short, I sought out the band to purchase their CD. I was most impressed with the CD after I heard the other songs. Belief quickly became my favorite song on the CD. I highly recommend buying this CD. The Missing are a refreshingly original sound in a musical world full of cookie cutter goth metal. This CD is an example of how originality will make you stand out from the rest. Great job!!

    I'd heard a few samples, seen the video for Scary Kitty, then went ahead, took a chance and bought the CD. I'm not only glad to say I did, I'm even more glad that I bought it instead of pirating it! Support the small bands, take a chance, and buy this CD, it rocks, has great base lines, solid hooks, and isn't something you've heard 40 versions of on the radio. The singer has a powerful, raw, driving voice full of energy and passion, and the lyrics are fun. My only dislike, was that the cover of Ministry's song Scarecrow was chosen instead of Thieves, Stigmata, or N.W.O., three songs I consider better in all regards. That being the only down point, I STILL suggest you get this outstanding production, once the band hits it big, you'll likely never have another chance to add it to your collection! I can't wait for the next one. das_Minotaur!

    I bought this CD expecting something fresh and maybe under-done, fresh certainly, but certainly not sub-standard. I belive the Missing are still un-signed, which is a disaster that needs rectifiing if you ask me. No weak tracks, each track has something new to offer to your ears. If you are a fan of metal, the gothic, I highly recommend buying this cd

    Minimoose has it right on. I first heard about the Missing in a Foamy toon, so I tried the link on their site, and since the samples were good ordered the cd. This is one of my favorites now, I just wish it were longer! Finally, though, a girl metal band that doesn't do that low growlly voice thing that sounds like they're destroying their vocal cords! I hate that! In short, this cd rocks my socks. Thank you. = )

I hope I won't have to wait too long to hear more of JJB's masterful guitar licks, and the enchanting although gritty voice of the luscious vixen herself, DM. The music is fresh, exciting, and I can't wait to hear more. Thanks for putting out some extremely well thought out and entertaining music.     i love the missing:!!!! i heard the song scary kitty in a Foamy toon and it rocked and when i ordered the cd i expected that to be the only good song on there, HOW WRONG WAS I! i listened to the first song and woah was it cool so the rest was just as good as anything i could hear on the radio if not better...and it is better!!!!

    I hardly ever like all the songs on a CD I buy, but thisone is an exception. I know there are only 5 songs on this CD, but they're perfect and quality is definetly more important than quantity. Plus, there are videos and pictures on it, which is great! I'm probably the first fan from Slovenia (Europe), but I'll definetly spread the word about this band

Nevertheless, this band is short of amazing and I would love to see them live, someday.     This is an Excellent CD, The Music work is very Complex, not easily hearable without the quality of the CD.The voice is clear and wonderful, dark and Scary( For Scary Kitty). I know music and this is good.It leaves you asking for more. AS for that, no doubt they said the same thing about Evanescence when They released an EP, at first.The Enhanced CD is full of Pictures,and Live video as well, of performances. Well done, very well done indeed/ I Have added the entire thing to the Playlists, though I admit to a partiality to Belief,and Scary Kitty. If you dont have one yet....Get one(CD Babys service is lightening fast)

Nah, seriously, this is a powerful album, some mates of mine were skeptical about the length and the quality of this CD, but the music alone proved them otherwise. All songs were masterfully crafted and the song 'belief' just kicks straight arse. Definately my bloody album of the year. BUY THE FUCKING CD!!!! BLOODY BUY IT NOW DAMMIT!!!

    this is what i'd call an ep more than a full album as it has only 5 songs on it, but what it lacks in quantity it certainly makes up for in quality. this is also an enhanced cd, so there are video clips and a photo selection in pdf format. this whole album is very sincere which is one of its strengths. i am blown away with how much substance and style are matched in this collection. on a technical level, the tracks are well produced and have a professional sound. the vocal quality is suited for the style and isn't out-of-place, off-key, or grating. the overall sound creates its mood successfully without pretension. what strikes me most about the maturity of the band's style is that you can hear some of the bands that inspired them without being a rip-off or a poor facsimile. i didn't think to myself "well, they definitely listened to so-n-so when they recorded this track." i personally give the album a solid A rating.

It's really cool that there are videos on the CD too so I can feel like the lucky people who get to see live them all of the time in NY and they look great--- not like some lame videos of bands I've seen!
