notes
Sam Misner and Megan Smith began their musical collaboration after working together as actors on a production of "Woody Guthrie's American Song" and immediately recognized a mutual love of Americana music. Since then the two have played regularly around the Bay Area and beyond, and have built a steady and loyal following. Both Sam and Megan are natives of Northern California, having grown up in Sonoma County and Davis, respectively.
Balancing their careers as actors and musicians is no easy task but the two have found the art of storytelling to be one of the common threads running through both forms. Characters of various types inhabit their songs. Some are fictional, some are autobiographical, and some are historical, as in the tune "Triangle Factory Fire". Based on the true story of the infamous fire at the Triangle Waistcoat Factory in New York City in 1911, the song combines researched facts and invention to retell the tragic story from a first-person perspective -- that of Cecilia Walker, one of the actual survivors.
Crafting original songs rich in meaning and texture, the duo's sound is centered around unique vocal harmonies and evocative lyrics. Their influences span many genres ranging from Traditional and Old-time music, Bluegrass, Folk, and Rock and Roll, to Reggae, Motown and the Blues. Strong songwriting and an exceptional blend of voices is what sets this pair apart.

Simple and sweet
author: Mick MizeSome music just makes you happy and grateful: this is that music. Some tracks are timeless, some are personal and detailed, and all are human and moving. Wonderful stuff.
Sweet
author: Mario DeSioSweet harmonies. Some people just blend. There's no telling how or why. These two folks were born to sing together. Their songs too are as colorfull as their harmonies. All great stories and personal explorations you can delve into time and time again. All they need to do is record more albums so we can enjoy them.
Beautiful
author: PEZEthereal and earthy all at once, this CD enthralls with storytelling and guitar work second only to the harmonies and effortless turn of lyric that Sam and Megan give each track. Nothing halfway about this CD.
Misner & Smith deliver heart-tugging harmonies, irresistable lyrics.
author: Meg DevineThis is the first collaboration by Sam Misner and Megan Smith, and their effortless, heart-tugging harmonies make me eager for more Misner/Smith projects. The sweetness of tunes like Henry & Lil is balanced by good old fashioned fun on traditional songs like Blue Ridge Mountain Blues. Misner and Smith deliver lyrics that sneak up on you, surprise you with their honesty, and beg an immediate second listen.
Fine Singing and Good Guitar Work
author: Jim DouglasSinging almost all originals, the 2 voices in "Halfway Home" blend beautifully. This CD is better each time I listen to it. "Triangle Factory Fire" deserves to be heard far and wide.
