NEW Release by indie rock diva - Michelle Penn...

Michelle Penn delivers hook-laden guitar pop with attitude and style. Basically, she rocks. Named one of the best-unsigned artists by Musician Magazine, she has graced the main stage at Lilith Fair beside the likes of Sarah McLachlan. She has also shared the stage with artists as diverse as Sugar Ray, Jeff Buckley and Collective Soul. With the latest release of the aptly titled 2 Good 4, she stands poised to take her career to the next level.

Blending the influences of Chrissie Hynde and Sheryl Crow, Michelle has earned respect from her peers through her guitar playing, singing and songwriting talents. In 1995, she released her debut CD, Running from the Seasons, which went on to sell over 5000 copies. In late 1997 she turned up the volume for her second CD How Do You Live, which featured a guest appearance by Will Turpin of Collective Soul.

In 2001, Penn once again teamed up with engineer Al Sutton (Kid Rock), and released her third independent CD, 2 Good 4 U, recorded in her home town of Detroit. The single, "Lucky", has already garnered radio play four major markets. Guest musicians on this release include, Todd Wolfe (Sheryl Crow), Jeff Cease (Black Crowes), Brandon Bush (Shawn Mullins). But make no mistake about it, 2 Good 4 U is Penn's record, as she takes on not only lead and rhythm guitars, but adds Wurlitzer this time around, giving the CD a richer, fuller sound. Highlights include the scorching title cut and the inspirational ballads "Avalon" and "Only Lonely". But 2 Good 4 U also includes some of Penn's most rocking work yet, such as "Hollywood" on which she takes on the bottle neck slide to add to her guitar prowness, and "Superstar", both of which poignantly address her ambitions and career choice.

Critics unanimously agree Penn's songs are consistently memorable and full of hooks, anchored by her expressive vocal style and turn-up-the-Vox guitar playing. Gregory Nicoll of Atlanta's Creative Loafing raved: "A golden-throated, electric guitar sorceress - a triumph of genuinely electric performances." Catch Michelle on the road as she continues to tour across the Eastern United States and further expands her touring and radio base to other major markets.

  • Strong-minded, Warm-hearted, Multi-talented... Michelle Penn
    author: LadySixString Music

LAST LAUGH is a mirrored reflection of its strong-minded, warm-hearted, multi-talented writer/producer Michelle Penn. Incorporating the musical skill of a couple of well-known and extremely talented musicians; Will Turpin (Collective Soul) and Andrew Carillo (Joan Osborn) on the project, Michelle Penn has combined her impassioned guitar artistry with a set of vocal chords that could melt your soul with fervent heat… into a down-to-earth, the-girl-can-rock, six track auditory display of excellence! Highlights include: “Think Twice” (track #1) for the soulful, heartfelt melodies. The vocals will catch your interest with the subtle Aimee Mann characteristics. “Out of the Blue” (track #2) for the killer syncopated guitar hook. More excellent vocals displaying more of a Chrissie Hynde tone. “Good” (track #3) for the parallel major/minor modal interchange through the verses. Very cool. “Avalon” (track #6) for the tougher, grittier sounding Sarah McLachlan style vocals over a Counting Crows musical atmosphere. Wonderfully unique. In a time when it is extremely rare to pop in a CD and find that you truly enjoy every track – Michelle Penn has given us this opportunity… flawlessly… with LAST LAUGH.
