notes
michael goodwyn's "progress" is a storybook of his life growing up in the early 70's during the musical revolution.he started early on in his teens writing songs but they lay dormant for years until he formed a band in the early 1990's.the band that was eventually called backstreet, began performing many of these songs in local venues and in the richmond area.his son nathan started with him so young he had to sneak him into the bars so he could play.michael's wife cindy also plays guitar and sings in the band.a spot for a lead guitarist came to be when michael met bill bolling at his work one day and they just clicked and have been playing together ever since.several drummers have come & gone and jeff lelik ,an awesome one, plays on this cd.the songs on this cd are grass roots music written with passion & taste about life and changes in a rural county of central virginia.seeing all the signs of progress(the title track)in a small town, his treasured dog max pass before him, the family sawmill business change, and his feelings about his God in all this are evident though his music.as far as genre is concerned I don't know how you would classify the music , how about john prine and james taylor rolled up with dwight yokum with a little bit of steve earl mixed in with bobby dylan.you can go to http://www.myspace.com/michaelgoodwyn for more imformation.good listening about real life
