notes

From The Famous Monkey Bar in New York City comes the debut CD of Michael Garin, the Master of Lush Urban Standards, International Classics, and Truly Twisted Originals.

THE SONG OF THE ALPHA MALE is the debut CD from Michael Garin. Combining such classics as SATIN DOLL and ROUTE 66 with jems from overseas such as Carlos Gardel's tango masterpiece VOLVER, MICHAEL GARIN has redefined the modern romance soundtrack.

And if that weren't enough, his bizarre and hilarious originals such as FIRE ANTS and MY HAND bring a welcome dose of wit and surrealism to the proceedings.

From the rakish cover photography by reknown fashion lenser Ellen Von Unwerth, to the sublime playing of bassist extraordinaire Earl May, this is a totally delicious treat.

A New York fixture at the famed Monkey Bar, as well as an award winning theatre composer, Michael Garin is a magician at the piano who croons as sublimely as Sinatra, and possesses the naughty wit of Tom Lehrer. So enjoy!

  • New York cabaret like you want it to be
    author: V. Hailer

The closest thing I have to the atmosphere this CD creates is the 4-CD set "The Erteguns' New York Cabaret Music," which is a compilation of live and studio recordings of the great nightclub singers of the 40s and 50s. Michael Garin is re-creating that atmosphere NOW in his live performances, and listening to his first CD is almost as good. You'll feel more sophisticated after just one hearing, and the original songs are a hoot. It's on constant rotation in my collection. WARNING: May cause alcohol consumption, especially Manhattans.

  • A fine farce fancifully fabricated

This is a great disk for dinner parties, cocktail hours, etc.. Brings me back to the Monkey Bar....
